An independent theatre and one of Camden’s long-standing cultural venues, Theatro Technis was founded by Cypriot actor, director and writer George Eugeniou and has supported new writing and under-represented voices for nearly seventy years.
We are working with Wild Architects on the theatre’s next chapter: the refurbishment and extension of the existing 120-seat venue. The proposals will create a new Cypriot National Theatre in London, including a 300-seat auditorium, studio theatre, cabaret space, and serviced apartments for touring companies – placing community and collaboration at the heart of the theatre’s future.
Project team: @ttechnis , @wild___architects , @orconsultingengineers , @wemakecamden , the GLA, High Commissioner of Cyprus
I don’t know an Arab childhood that didn’t consist of Omar Sharif’s films playing in the background at all times 👀
How did this man from Alexandria end up conquering global cinema? Yep, you read that right, not just Arab cinema but Hollywood, French, and British too. Can you even think of someone in cinema today who compares?? Eh, neh.
I saw that a new play called Love Omar is coming to London and instantly wanted to trace his steps and understand how he became THE MAN. 🎥
The play picks up in 1983, once Omar is past his prime and is in Chichester (I KNOW, HOW RANDOM) performing in The Sleeping Prince. Hannah Khalil researched and interviewed his co-stars to understand what he was like, creating a fictionalised account of how Omar was during this production.
What I love about interviews is getting a peek at a person’s personality. Are they funny? Do they have a sense of humour? Do they stand for something? Are they rude? And this is exactly what Hannah and the cast create for us, a peek at the man who was successful on screen but… uhh… different off screen 👀
