It all happened last Friday afternoon while I was out taking my dog for a walk. People working on city sewer infrastructure had dug up human remains including a skull and femur bones. Upon realizing what they had uncovered experts were called in to study the bones. Sewer construction was stopped while forensic anthropologists and city officials collected what remains they could. Tarps covered the area and were guarded nightly by local police and extremely bright tower lights that illuminated the south end of the park. The park was once Kalamazoos first pioneer cemetery, it existed around the 1830s and was turned into a park in 1884. Most bodies were relocated to other cemeteries in the city but many were left in place. Perhaps these remains will be studied so that we might all learn more about the person that once lived in Kalamazoo so many years ago. #kalamazoo #discoverkalamazoo
