How it was - Klassenputtel in @burgtheater . My first big experience on stage, and straight to the city theater. Hihi 😏 It was very interesting, fun, but also very challenging at times. 🥵 I’m very grateful to the whole team and performers for the great time together, for the new knowledge and skills. 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼 thank you all! Dear all, I am the Hogweed — yes, the very one you’ve heard whispered about. And I want to say thank you. Thank you to my brave team, who were not afraid of thorns or burns, and who helped me unfurl my leaves and step into the streets of Vienna. You gave me costumes, voices, music, and breath. Together, we turned the city’s cold stone into a living stage. Thank you to the audience — you walked alongside me, laughed, wondered, argued, and voted. Without you, this procession would have been nothing more than the rustle of grass. A special thanks goes to the @wienwoche team — for the trust, the support, and the chance to make this wild idea bloom. We lived only a few hours, yet in that brief flowering, there was a whole summer. And though I will vanish as suddenly as I appeared, the seeds have already scattered. If Hogweed is the star of the show, Olga is the one making sure its toxic charm grows into a full story — weaving irony, danger, and beauty into every scene. Here’s the letter she wrote to her “old sweet toxic pal,” the Hogweed — published without change:Hogweed, my old sweet toxic pal, Glad to hear from you again! After so many years you decided to visit us once more in Vienna — so welcome back. Here I am, after my second migration: first from sunny Uzbekistan, then from cold Russia. I once was a feminist activist, shouting loudly in the streets, later building spaces for others as curator and artist. Now I live here, shaping shows about fragility and power, beauty and danger — I am toxic! and Orangery 2099. In this project about your return, I support Nataly in many ways, but most of all I take care of the dramaturgy — weaving together the toxic threads of the whole performance. On Thursday, September 18, the procession Giant Hogweed: A Deceptive Gift in Vienna took place as part of the WIENWOCHE festival. 🌿✨ An experimental theatre-performance unfolded, diving into the hidden legacies of diplomacy, false hospitality, and political symbolism — all rooted in the story of a beautiful but poisonous plant gifted in 1814. Surreal scenes, satire, historical figures, and a carnival-like procession invited us to rethink power, history, and the future — together. Set on Vienna’s historic Ballhausplatz, where the 1814 Congress took place, this performance delves into the hidden legacies of diplomacy, toxic gifts, and the long shadows of political power. The Giant Hogweed — gifted by Tsar Alexander I — becomes a central metaphor: beautiful, invasive, and dangerous.
