Last month, we had the privilege of attending the home blessing ceremony for Michelle McGuire. During the devastating July 4 flood in Hunt, Texas, Michelle’s home was completely washed away. Swept away by rising floodwaters, Michelle survived by holding onto a tree for hours until first responders were able to reach her. After she was safely rescued, she began the long road toward recovery and rebuilding her life. Through down payment assistance and first-time homebuyer support, Michelle was able to purchase the home she had moved into after the flood, a blessing that meant she did not have to move yet again. We are honored to have supported Michelle on her journey home. This milestone would not have been possible without the partnership of Leslie Robertson, the Community Foundation, and Connective. Thank you for your collaboration and commitment to helping Texans recover and rebuild. In this week’s On The House blog post, we wanted to remind teachers about a TSAHC program designed to help them thrive, along with other resources available to support their homeownership journey. Lack of awareness about down payment assistance continues to be one of the greatest challenges facing today’s home buyers. Despite a plethora of down payment assistance options, there are still many home buyers that do not know about these programs or only learn about them after it is too late to apply. In this week's On The House blog post, we explore why down payment assistance education matters and highlight the tools TSAHC offers to help home buyers better understand their options.
