Did you ever think your favorite bodega would also offer Phó? Well @phodega does, and they’re killing it. We of course covered the highlight of the night, their beer pho with tender beef brisket. But don’t sleep on their salt and pepper chicken wings, perfectly crispy with a hint of spice. The combination chicken and rice was also something worth a shout. But the Star of the night was by far the phodega fries, topped with heaps of beef brisket, onions, and cilantro and coated in a layer of house gravy. It was spectacular, almost a Vietnamese poutine. Don’t let the fast casual/counter service fool you, with locations in South Loop, Gold Coast and their newest one in North Center @iheartcafecito does laid back BANGER Cuban food for breakfast, lunch and dinner 🔥 Whether it’s a quick sandwich ( and if it is I hope it’s the chipotle chicken) with a Cafe con Leche ( or their namesake, the cafecito which you can’t go wrong with) on their patio for that ‘early 2000s Felicity vibe or a full on soul lifting meal (yeah their ropa vieja does that ) they got you covered. I remember eating at the south loop location back in 2011 maybe? And just being enamored by, not just how juicy the meat is here but how all the flavors just gel together. Like a really really good song. And consistency being the mother of excellence I swear it still tastes the same even after all these years. Even at another location. Uptown has a new Mexican restaurant and they are good! @laspinatas1311 just opened this past December but have already become a neighborhood favorite. From their soups, to their drinks, to their tacos - you can enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine in a lively atmosphere. The shrimp soup was my favorite- it was full of flavor and the shrimp weren’t overcooked; they were prepared properly. It was not only delicious, but also comforting. They also have different specials during the week, which makes this a great spot to stop in and grab a seat to enjoy yourself.
