Custom type for @flynorwegian As part of Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA’s full rebranding, led by design agency @trydesign , we were asked to create a custom typeface for the new identity. Since their Norwegian heritage was a big part of the brand its origin, our research led us to Norway’s first airplane; “Start”, whose fuselage lettering carried quite unique aerodynamic-like shapes. Inspired by this, we designed the font family Norwegian Sans. With two complementary styles, Display and Text, it honors the country’s avionic history while echoing the aerodynamic shapes of aircrafts. The Display version, available in two weights, is geometric in structure and conveys the most personality of the pair. Designed for headlines, its defining feature — the smooth and sweeping terminals are prominent and gives it a distinctive look. The Text version, designed in Regular, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic, keeps the same characteristics of the display typeface while being optimised for readability. With more condensed letterforms and higher contrast it is more suitable for body copy across both print and digital applications. Norwegian Sans reflects The Norwegian Way – clarity, simplicity, and functionality – while avoiding clichés like trolls or vikings. Together with TRY’s refreshed visual identity, which draws on the Norwegian flag’s colors and an unpretentious design language, the typeface supports a consistent, cohesive brand presence across all touchpoints. It honors Norway’s avionic heritage while providing a modern, versatile typographic system that works seamlessly in both digital and print environments.

Tonje Jæger leads the design department at @trydesign , a Norwegian communication agency. Her approach centres on strong ideas, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and a shared responsibility for creative work. In this conversation, @tonjej reflects on how concept-driven design guides their process, what they look for in new talent, and how a supportive studio culture enables experimentation and adaptability. She also touches on how designers at TRY are encouraged to think beyond traditional outputs, drawing on diverse influences and working closely with specialists across fields to develop relevant, resilient solutions. … In this series, carried out by our Season 2 hosts @rasmusfiskedesign and @k_grafisk , we interview design studios getting a deeper understanding of their practice and journeys through the industry. … The Q&A series is part of WIP, an initiative by @bielkeyang

By @trydesign TRY Design’s vibrant identity for Dansekampen, an inclusive dance competition in Norway, is a joyful celebration of movement. The Oslo-based studio combined the letters ‘D’ and ‘K’ to create a dancing pictogram, reminiscent of universal accessibility symbols. This modular system allows for playful variations, mirroring different dance styles, resulting in a bold, energetic brand that perfectly captures the spirit of this event.
