Try the Pie is the long-running project of Bay Area musician Bean Kaloni Tupou, known for delicate, emotionally honest songwriting shaped, in part, by their Tongan heritage and deep roots in the region’s punk and DIY scenes. Over the years, Try the Pie has moved from soft-edged pop and raw bedroom recordings to a fuller indie-punk sound with the help of Nick Lopez (drums), Bailey Lupo (bass), and Laine Barriga (guitar). Bean has been a member of several Bay Area bands over the last twenty years (Sourpatch, Crabapple, Salt Flat, and Plume). Their storytelling has shifted but has always centered harmony, distortion, and emotional precision. Try the Pie’s latest record, A Widening Burst of Forever, was released on Get Better Records in 2022.

greetings I’m writing to invite you all to a show that i booked! it’s happening on sunday may 3 at the living gallery. the occasion is that @try_the_pie , the long-running songwriting project of Bean Kaloni Tupou, will be in town from the Bay Area. their 2022 record “A Widening Burst of Forever” was one of my favorites that year 🌀if you like sharp and attentive songwriting, guitar-pop that moves between noise and poetry and twang, if you were a fan of Salinas Records in the 2010s or if you enjoy bands like Wednesday, etc, I think you will love their music. I have been such a big fan of Bean’s songs for so many years & have put them on many important .zip folder mp3 mixtapes in my life. also very excited that @freezingcoldband (mems. Aye Nako, Cheeky, Sleater-Kinney, Bridge & Tunnel) and the Lantern Flies (mems. Persona, Decisions) will join. Really looking fwd to seeing every one of these sets🥳 6:30 doors 7:30 music, all ages, no one turned away for lack of funds hope to see you there.

Over the span of 2025, my good friend and collaborator, Jenna Marx, brought 10 of us together (11 including herself) to work on 15 songs she wrote. These songs are earnest, touching, and fun to play - Joyride! does what they do best in these songs, tell amazing stories. I had so much fun working on these from start to finish.
