Finally made it back to Manzanita for a long weekend. Went to where we left Phin’s ashes last fall and put down some of his favorite treats. I then realized something about my relationship with this place. I used to call it my happy place. But, that seems too trite and shallow. This is where we walked the beach when my cousin and best childhood friend died. This is where we brought Phin’s ashes and cried openly on the beach. This is where we walked when Chris learned his childhood friend was being moved to hospice This is where we walked off anxiety and stess when my father took a bad fall and ended up in surgery, accelerating his memory issues. I realized this is actually my healing place. So much more important than a happy place for me. It never fails me.
I don’t post much to Facebook these days, but I try to do a birthday post every year. Today’s that day! Hello, 67! I was excited a few short months ago, thinking that I was going to have a birthday number that kids considered cool, but ah, the fickleness of trends. Came, went and I am stuck with a birthday number that is yesterday’s news. At least Ivar’s wished me a happy birthday! That’s sort of cool.
