Across Central Nova Scotia, roadside farm stands are becoming part of the landscape again.
At the ends of driveways and along quiet country roads, neighbours are filling small stands with fresh bread, baked goods, eggs, flowers, preserves, vegetables, and handmade goods made right here in our communities.
We recently stopped by Feather & Flour Farm Stand in Middle Stewiacke (📍1641 NS-289) owned by Megan and Connor, and it felt like the perfect place to begin a new Explore Central NS series highlighting these local spots.
Buying from a farm stand feels different. You’re supporting real people, local agriculture, and the kind of small scale community entrepreneurship that helps rural communities thrive.
Over the coming months, we’d love to feature more farm stands from across Central Nova Scotia.
Know one we should visit next? Tag them in the comments below 👇
Let’s build a list people can use all season long.

Decades of caring for children leaves a mark on a community in ways that are almost impossible to measure.
After 45 years as an Early Childhood Educator, Barb is officially retiring from the same daycare where she started her very first job out of college for Early Childhood Education.
For nearly half a century, she helped care for, comfort, guide, and shape the lives of children in this community. Thousands of little moments most people never see. Tying shoes. Wiping tears. Teaching kindness. Celebrating milestones. Becoming a safe and familiar face for generations of families. ❤️
In a world where people change jobs constantly, there’s something deeply moving about someone who spends 45 years caring for children and helping shape the earliest years of so many lives.
Tonight, her story will also be featured on CTV News at 5 ❤️
Stories like this are exactly the kind of stories I want to continue sharing through Truro Buzz. The people quietly making a difference in our communities every single day.
If there’s someone in Colchester County whose story deserves to be highlighted, you can send story ideas or submissions to [email protected]
And if you or your family were lucky enough to know Barb over the years, feel free to leave her a message or memory below.
Happy May Long everyone! Looks like we’ll get some sunshine for at least part of the weekend ☀️🤞
Music, ice cream, car shows, markets, yard sales…Spring has officially sprung.
Follow @trurobuzz to stay connected to the stories, people, culture, and community life of Colchester County. ❤️🐝
Not only is Michael a busy business owner, he’s also a dedicated big brother in our program. He understands firsthand how impactful the experience is.
Thank you @enveloprofessionals for supporting youth in our community, opening doors to what’s possible, and believing in our mission and vision here at Big Brothers Sisters.
Some people grow up in a place.
Others grow with it.
Born and raised in Colchester County, Hayley’s connection to this community runs deep. From childhood memories at local fundraisers to quiet coffee breaks at places like @brookfieldbakerycafetruro , this has always been home.
Today, as part of @thomasgroup_realestate , she helps others find their place here too.
What stands out most about Hayley isn’t just her knowledge of the market. It’s the way she understands the people behind the move. The excitement, the uncertainty, the hope tied to finding a place that truly feels like home.
Whether she’s helping first time buyers, growing families, or people starting a new chapter, her approach is rooted in something simple: community matters.
And when someone has spent their whole life genuinely connected to a place, it shows.
We open this Friday! 🥳🍦
Did you know we operate as a social enterprise? Every dollar raised here at Fundy Scoops goes back to mentorship programming with @bbbscolchester
We’re excited to officially welcome Gabi as the Manager of Fundy Scoops for the 2026 season! Gabi is entering her second year of the Bachelor of Education program at StFX and has been involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters for several years through both volunteering and working in the office over the past three summers. She is excited to take on this new leadership role, work alongside an amazing team, and help make Fundy Scoops a fun and positive place for everyone this summer!
We also want to congratulate Kayden who was our manager at Fundy Scoops for the last two seasons! She received her Education degree from Crandall and we’re so proud of her and excited to see what she’ll get up to next.
The dairy bar will operate Monday-Friday 2-8 and 11-8 on weekends (we’ll be open 11-8 on Victoria Day!)
We can’t wait to welcome you all back. Thanks so much for supporting @bbbscolchester by purchasing your sweet treats at Fundy Scoops 🥰🍨❤️
Menstrual products are something many people never have to think twice about buying, but for others, they’re simply out of reach.
This May, United Way Maritimes is launching Menstrual May, a collection drive helping address period poverty across Colchester and Cumberland Counties.
Hundreds of women, girls, transgender, and non-binary individuals in our communities struggle to access menstrual products because of cost, location, or other barriers. Something as simple as not having access to pads or tampons can impact school, work, confidence, and daily life.
From May 6–31, unopened menstrual products can be dropped off at the following locations:
📍 Colchester County
• Truro Library
• Tatamagouche Library
• Stewiacke Library
📍 Cumberland County
• YMCA of Cumberland
• Dr Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre
All donations will go directly to local agencies and organizations supporting individuals who menstruate throughout our region.
Whether it’s one box or a workplace collection drive, every contribution helps. 🩷
Mother’s Day looks different for everyone.
Today, let’s make a mom’s day ❤️
We want to celebrate the moms, grandmothers, stepmoms, aunties, chosen family, and mother figures who’ve helped shape our lives in big ways and small ones.
Tag your mom, a grandmother, stepmom, auntie, chosen family member, or someone who’s simply loved people like a mother would and give them a little shoutout below.
And while you’re here, let’s fill the comments with things moms deserve to hear more often.
What’s one thing you wish every mom could hear today?
Starting a business is one thing.
Opening the doors to a new travel agency in 2018, just before the travel industry faced some of its toughest years, is another.
For more than two decades, Lorie has been helping people experience the world and create lasting memories through travel. In 2018, she opened Memory Bank Travel, building a business rooted in relationships, trust, and a genuine love for helping people explore.
The years that followed brought major challenges to the travel industry, but Lorie never lost sight of why she started. Her passion for travel, her clients, and serving the local community kept her moving forward, and today, Memory Bank Travel continues to grow with a dedicated team and a brand new storefront at 72 Walker Street.
Next week’s grand opening is a chance to celebrate that growth, meet the team behind the business, and see the new space for yourself.

Happy Mother’s Day weekend. 🌷❤️

We’re back with another Café highlight for the series ☕
This time I stopped into @caffeitaliatruro in downtown Truro, bringing a little taste of Italy to Central Nova Scotia. Tucked along Prince Street, it’s the kind of spot that feels perfect for a slower lunch, espresso break, or pastry and coffee while exploring downtown.
More than just a café, Caffè Italia is also a restaurant, deli, and gathering place inspired by the flavours of Italy and the Mediterranean. Known for their espresso, fresh pasta dishes, pastries, and cozy atmosphere, it’s quickly becoming a favourite stop for both locals and visitors.
They’re offering a special Mother’s Day menu this weekend featuring Italian classics like lasagne alla bolognese, cannelloni, tiramisu, and even a fill your own cannoli kit ❤️💐
