Please read this might help a father somewhere:
Yesterday I shared a moment that will be a core memory for my children forever! I will share the backstory so that you all can understand why this moment was so important and powerful for the kids and I.
For the past month I have been working on teaching the kids how to ride bikes. Let’s just say it’s been a challenge for everyone involved 😭! The times before Noni would try to learn and get frustrated/shutdown because she messed up or didn’t catch on fast enough. She would get off the bike then say “I can’t do it, I quit” and wouldn’t get back on the bike to finish what she started. Nassor would get on the bike at first and be so scared of falling/failing that he wouldn’t even try. He would say “I’m scared daddy, I don’t want to fall”. He would cry until I pulled him off the bike.
Yesterday they both tried to do the same thing as they did the times before when trying to learn how to ride the bikes. But this time was different. I realize what I was seeing in both of them. The kids have picked up character traits from what they have seen, from the most important people in their lives right now. At that moment I knew it was my job to end those two bad mindsets. God has a way of making you see yourself through your children in the most innocent moments, if you pay attention.
Personally for years I have always battled with having all the talent in the world with multiple things but with the mindset of being so scared of failing. So bad to the point where I wouldn’t even try or self sabotage because of it. I’ve done this in multiple areas in my life over the years with careers, businesses, relationships and even father hood at the beginning. But no longer will I allow that mindset to cultivate my life and the people around me that I love. My kids showed me that lesson in real time yesterday.
