Sitting in the bathtub, I read you a story.The water deepens into the black crater of an underwater volcano, we slowly start to sink in. At the bottom we find a snackbar, we know exactly what we have to do. Shifting Grounds This is a proposal to preserve an unproductive space in Brussels—a space for leisure that can remain incredibly diverse in many ways. This refers to Gilles Cléments „Le tiers paysage“ (2004), which is a manifesto that indicates the value of neglected leftover spaces in a man-made and controlled world. Leaving these spaces almost untouched is what lets the biodiversity and exploration of these spaces grow. Lifting the floor to create a line of roofs. Deepening potholes to gather water. Leaving the space to what comes. Master thesis at KU Leuven 2023 in the studio „Roadside Picnic“ led by Johannes Berry and Johan Nielsen Interestingly this space is still empty as the private development permit got blocked almost 2 years ago...The commune can’t do anything as this is private property. The plants got cut twice in the time and keep coming back as well as humans. Time to squat?
