Für NIÑXS – DAS LEBEN GLITZERT hat der Regisseur Kani Lapuerta die trans Jugendliche Karla im mexikanischen Städtchen Tepoztlán über einen Zeitraum von acht Jahren begleitet. Die Kamera wird Zeugin von Karlas Entwicklung, von den ersten Schritten der Transition bis hin zu ihrem Erwachsenwerden. In einer Umgebung, in der traditionelle Werte und die Realität einer queeren Identität immer wieder aufeinandertreffen, finden Karla und der Filmemacher in Gesprächen zueinander, die von Offenheit, Empathie und gegenseitigem Vertrauen geprägt sind. Dabei entstehen intime Porträts ihrer Freundschaft, aber auch authentische Einblicke in Karlas Hoffnungen, Zweifel und ihre Suche nach Akzeptanz.

The prize honours outstanding documentary film compositions and highlights the narrative power of music in cinema.
Meet the jury:
▪️ Anke Petersen (@troppic66 ) – Producer and Managing Director of Jyoti Film, focusing on international documentary co-productions and untold stories, especially female perspectives.
▪️ Mirjam Skal (@skalmirjam ) – Zurich-based film composer known for combining electronic textures with orchestral sounds; winner of the German Documentary Film Music Award 2025.
▪️ Victor Gangl (@victorganglmusic ) – Vienna-based composer for documentary, cinema and TV, recognised for his precise dramaturgical approach and cultural-policy engagement.
▪️ Dominik Giesriegl (@dominik_giesriegl ) – Composer for numerous German cinema and television productions and lecturer in film composition in Munich.
🏆 The winner of the German Documentary Film Music Award 2026 will be announced soon.

The award is endowed with €5,000 and sponsored by @versicherungskammer_kultur in cooperation with the @komponist_innenverband .
