Arrhythmia is a collaborative artist book by Alain Co and Emiland Kray. The content of this book explores the clinging nature of past trauma and how those cycles persist within the lived realities of each artist. Pulled directly from the journals of Co and Kray, the text within this book shows hopelessness, violence, loneliness, worry, and fear in their most vulnerable states. This book was created with the intention that sharing these inner monologues could be a moment of recognition and comradery for individuals who suffer the same thoughts, harmful patterns, and compulsions. The book’s size is a testament to this. Arrhythmia can fit within the palm of your hand and can be cradled by the pressure from your fingers as they wrap around it. The preciousness of these thoughts and the preciousness of this object go hand-in-hand. Furthermore, the bronze cast slipcase will change color due to oxidation the more it is handled with bare skin. Meaning that this piece’s color will become richer and more nuanced if given physical affection over time, just as we strive to do as humans to each other everyday. This artwork through rawness and horrific honesty gives readers a chance to receive that vulnerability with firm acceptance and love.

Dream Eats Memory is based off of a personal nightmare about being eaten by a snake. Nightmares are commonplace in my life, and a huge part of my practice is about recording and recontextualizing the monsters that I dream about. This playful miniature book now exists as a hot pink snake enclosure, a letterpress printed meander book, a drawing, and a poem all included in the ‘snook’ (snake book) package.

Arrhythmia is a book chronicling internal doubt and persistent revisitations to a turbulent past through compulsive reverie turned sour. Both authors, Emiland Kray and Alain Co found that through journaling, talking, and forging connections with others who experience the world similarly, these harmful tendencies became less dangerous and instead became a foundation from which to build a more positive future upon. Through materials research, co-opting our editing process, and several prototypes we settled upon a finished form that celebrates both natural and historical forms. Arrhythmia celebrates connection with its bronze enclosure that’s color will slowly become richer the more it is physically handled, and the book itself can be cradled within the palm of your hands.

I AM NOT A WASTE is a response to suicidal thoughts during a long period of unemployment and partial underpaid, nonunionized, contract-based, employment through the adjunct university system. This book serves as a reminder that your value as a person is never based off of capital, but instead is proven every day by your simple ability to experience life.

‘Teeth Against Teeth’ was a dream about hot pink hyenas, lightning, blood, and foam. Now, it’s also a book and a megaphone (because you always need both). The book is a composite accordion book with pamphlet stitched signatures containing three poems: Lunge, Lucid, and Unleash. The book is covered with pink holographic paper and sits inside of the hyena megaphone’s mouth. The book measures 5”x5”, enclosure measures 19”x12”x9”. Arrhythmia is a miniature book made in collaboration with sculptor @a.co_thealien . This book explores the echoes of traumatic memories by using journal entries and deliberate, gentle touch.

Dream Eats Memory, or lovingly known as my snook, is a snake book and snake box about being eaten by a snake! I oftentimes represent my dreams and nightmares as a way for me to confront difficult feelings, and so, I let myself be engulfed by the snake instead of running from it.

Finally I AM NOT A WASTE is a zine that asserts that your worth as a human being is not tied to your personal wealth and capital. You contain unique insights, your flesh is singularly yours, you breathe and it is beautiful, and these are the things that make you valuable.
