2024
Ever since I heard that there was a city connected by water where boats were the primary form of transportation, I wanted to see it for myself.
When Carolyn got a sabbatical in 2024, we set out to visit a few European countries and added Venice to the list. It’s a place that has to be seen to be fully appreciated. The streets are absent from cars and bikes with the whole structure feeling like a labyrinth.
It makes exploring on foot feel like walking around in a different time. We stayed on an island just outside of the city and only came in before noon and the streets were surprisingly empty. I’m glad we got to see it, but also worry how long it will be above water.
