HEY! Wow! The @portlandmercury has launched a new music review zone called Spin Cycle and I am so honored to share their kind words about my new album! "I can’t think of a more fitting album title for the collective futility that our planet is experiencing at present than Trigger Object’s latest effort, Choking on a Crunchwrap Supreme as the World Burns. We’ve all been there, but what does that particular plight sound like? Helmed by Portland multimedia artist and composer Vern Avola, Trigger Object is the sound of a trillion byte death wobble of algorithmic static. Akin to the thousand-yard stare most of us unwittingly don in the wake of receiving a nonstop torrent of bullshit every day, the album’s messy beauty is a kind of acknowledgement that we are not alone. The world is currently every shade of screwed, but it’s also occasionally capable of uniting us under the emotional minutiae of comforting possibilities—just like Crunchwrap Supremes. Earth-shaking beats abound, flanked by twisted symphonies of frequency noise, walls of sordid discordance, and an ever-present sound bath of chaos that feels like you’re being led into the abyss of a synthesized fever dream. Harshness is its superpower, and even at its most grating, as heard on “Mechanical Bull Party Rental (Apocalyptic Remix),” the sheer presence it exudes alludes to a collective pulse of pissed-off slackers. It’s the kind of album that’s near-perfect for grimy, sweaty dance floors in the subspaces of a flailing metropolis. It can feel like a straight-up assault at times, as with the unflinching banger “Cloud of Daggers,” but a sly sense of humor writhes just beneath the surface, too. Prepare for involuntary stank face. Elle pratique la musique depuis plus de 20 ans et a commencé son travail en solo en 2007. Elle publie actuellement sa musique sous le nom de Trigger Object. Son travail combine des rythmes percutants, des textures électroniques plaintives et des paysages sonores multi-couches décrits comme « fragmentés, déformés et magnifiquement déjantés ». Avola a participé à plusieurs projets, notamment les duos Elrond et Bear Spray, le collectif noise Shrew Florist, ainsi que les groupes Prizehog, Dead (Australie) et Cocaine DVD. Elle se produit à l’international depuis 2006 et anime une émission de radio sur East Village Radio. Elle a également animé des émissions sur KRCB, KFFP, The Neon Hospice (Royaume-Uni) et Repeater Radio (Royaume-Uni). Elle dirige son propre label, EMS Records. Sa discographie comprend des sorties sur EMS Records ainsi que sur d’autres labels indépendants tels que Sige Recordings, An Out Recordings, Accident Prone Records, Gravity Records et Nadine Records. /

They are a space to connect, inspire and help us release tensions. They exist thanks to the support of their communities, a vast net of actors, ranging from the musicians, those accompanying them to those attending the events. All of these actors share one quality, their relentless presence, translated into support. Furthermore, the need for a space outside of a profit-oriented reality and its societal norms, motivates the diy-way in building, organising and living these scenes. Music genres can be recognised by album covers, concert posters, videos and accompanying merch. This exhibition is the result of the need to share and honor the work made by visual artists, who contribute actively into shaping extreme music scenes to become what they are. This is a moment to see and hear through their eyes and ears. By inviting them to show their work, the artists express their insights into the ecosystems they navigate. Pondering upon the encounters made along their migration path, Zohra Mrad links different artists and their practices, from the abstract and poetic expressions to the pointed and unmistakable messages, from noise, drone, ambient to hardcore punk and metal. " Incredibly moved to share with you another collaborative part of my research on ways to cope with the violence of the world we live in. Inspired by @ratcityrecon , (and Missoula's Total Fest way back when), this arrangement rules - when one band ends on one stage, the next band starts on the other stage. From 5pm sharp until around 11pm. 9 Bands! Four really great locals. Five holy-shit-they’re-amazing bands from Portland and Seattle. 17yo and under free! Spread the word. genius poster art @bvllmetalart @KPTZ , our local non-profit radio, has some rad people involved, and they’re into this stuff too, and will be playing these bands on the radio and helping get the word out. Yes! If you've never been to @quilcene.lantern , it's kinda unbelievable, in a really special and amazing way - the venue space is a 90+ year old barn, plus an old milking barn, both with stages. The place has been made really accessible, inclusive, and welcoming by the loving and hard working owners. It's a scenic farm property, surrounded by forest, with Tarboo Creek running through it. Chamber music concerts have been going on at this space for decades, and under new ownership it is now a venue hosting all kinds of events and shows the past couple years - including the heavy punk, metal, noise, heaviness that we all love.

🎥 A few visual selects I pulled together from a recent proof of concept shoot for a feature film called MAULING. I love working on horror films and especially when they’re werewolf/shapeshifter related. 🐺 I came on as co-director and director of photography and leaned into a cool moonlight palette with pockets of warmth, letting shadow and negative space carry tension. Set in the 90s, which gave us a lot to play with in texture, color, and production design. Shot on the ARRI Alexa Mini with @StoryGardenCA 🌷 providing camera and lighting. Soundtracked with “Untoward Nauseating Unmotion of the Floor” by @trigger.object Had the chance to perform with her in Oakland recently.
