Bruit – DATA (Music Video)
Last year I had the chance to work on the music video for “DATA” by @bruit_official , from their latest album “The Age of Ephemerality.”
It’s a video that took quite a lot of time to make and contains many different segments.
The track questions the role of AI in our society, but also the accumulation of data, technofascism, the rise of extremism, and the political power that tech holds in our lives today. It’s a deeply political album and track, and with this video I tried to translate part of that feeling using my own digital tools.

Hey. For quite some time now, I’ve been collecting, capturing, and archiving images taken from episodes of The Simpsons. The Simpsons were my first real encounter with comic writing. But I’ve also always been fascinated by the compositions, the framing, and the color choices of the early seasons, much more radical than what came later with the switch to HD.
A lot of those choices come from Gyorgyi Peluce, the colorist and background designer at Klasky Csupo (the studio that would go on to produce Rugrats a few years later). Most of the studio’s animators were from Europe, mainly Hungary, and you can feel in their work the influence of European animation: an animation style that doesn’t try to mimic reality, but to bend it, injecting a touch of surrealism into The Simpsons.
Here’s a small part of my collection. Maybe I’ll share more from time to time. And maybe one day, all of this will turn into a larger project. I hope so 🤞 For now, I’ll leave you with these beautiful frames from the early seasons of The Simpsons 📺

New entry in the queue of fonts under construction!
I came across the alphabet catalog from the « Fonderie Typographique Française, » and more specifically, this typeface from 1920: « L’Algérienne. » It’s over 100 years old, but it has a surprisingly modern feel. I adjusted the width of the original font, which was slightly extended by default (see img.3: in red the redesign, in green the original width/ see img.4: original specimen), to achieve a tighter spacing, making it more suitable for common use.
It turns out that this font is part of a series of typefaces named after countries (notably from the Maghreb). Here, it’s « L’Algérienne, » but in this 1920 catalog, there’s also « La Marocaine, » which is more whimsical than its cousin, more stereotypical as well (but no less interesting).
The question of identity is complex in my personal history, but Algeria is definitely part of it. Maybe this project will help me honor it better. I’m really happy to have discovered this font by chance ! I don’t yet know where all this will lead or what I’ll do to add a bit of my personality to it, but the process is underway!

A quick update on the Sanders Display, which has just found its numbers! A revival of an old Western Type font dating back to 1917, it experienced a second life in the 1970s, notably on the cover of Pharoah Sanders’ album ‘Thembi’. Originally designed as a stencil, it features slightly curved diagonals and some medieval/Celtic flourishes ! WIP 🏗️🏗️🏗️

Typeface under construction, based on various Textura (littera textualis/Gothic font) such as Chomsky, Cloister Black, or Old English, to name a few.
This project began two years ago, initially using the famous New York Times typeface for reference, which I have been very interested in (and somewhat fascinated by) for several years.
I am trying to create a font devoid of contrast, based on the richness and complexity of these old typefaces but synthesizing their decorative aspects. The overall direction is a blend of « geometrism » and ornamentation.
This is the first time I have spent so much time on a typeface like this. It is quite a complex process, requiring a lot of balancing. No character has a definitive shape yet, and each letter has a large number of variants (sketches). The next step will be to balance everything a bit more, simplify the shape of certain characters, and then create the numbers and some punctuation marks. Lowercase letters are not yet considered; it is quite a headache to make these very elaborate capitals coexist with smaller letters. We will see!

The song talks about the fascination artists have always had with the muse, the use of women’s bodies as objects by male artists as a « creative engine, » ignoring the uniqueness of the models and instrumentalizing women’s bodies for personal and selfish ends under the guise of « the beauty of art. » I wanted to portray this through a series of photos of the same subject, inevitably becoming an obsession for the photographer, who appears indiscreet here: the result is a long, infinite zoom from the voyeur’s eye to the subject, broken down, exhausted, captured in both the literal and figurative sense. This video was a small technical editing challenge, enhanced by @soerenlynggaard superb analog photos.
🇫🇷 Deuxième partie de mon travail sur le nouveau single d’Anna Maehl. J’ai réalisé le clip de ce nouveau single. Le morceau parle de cette fascination de la muse qu’ont les artistes de tout temps, de l’utilisation comme objet du corps des femmes par les artistes hommes comme « moteur créatif », faisant abstraction de la singularité des modèles, instrumentalisant le corps des femmes à des fins personnelles et égoïstes pour « la beauté de l’art ». Je voulais retranscrire cela par une succession de photos du même sujet, devenant fatalement obsessionnel pour le photographe, qui apparaît ici comme indiscret : il en découle un long zoom, infini, de l’œil du voyeur au sujet décomposé, épuisé, capturé, au sens propre comme figuré. Ce clip a été un petit challenge de montage assez technique, mis en beauté par les superbes photos argentiques de Soren.

I created a small visual for the music festival organized by @wyld______ & @prismeasso in Toulouse the next 06/21. I had fun making a short motion design sequence, and I also did some experiments by printing my animation to explore texture. It was fun to do !

Over the past few months, I’ve had the opportunity to work with the artist Marina Trench on creating a series of video capsules for her DJ sets. Between vintage typography and grainy textures, I had quite a bit of freedom to bring it all to life ! Once again, thank you to @marinatrenchmusic , @naomie.s and @kidding_aside_ for this collaboration !
