Had the most amazing experience yesterday when our friend, @glenn_hatch invited us for a lunch run to Catalina island on his beautiful 42’ MTI Center Console.
As we approached the island about 5 miles outside of Avalon, I spotted a blow spout on the horizon, about a mile ahead. Glenn drove into the area where we encountered thousands of dolphins, and a pod of adult and juvenile Humpback Whales migrating south from Alaska to Baja Mexico. We were stunned to find ourselves encircled by approximately 25-30 whales as they slowly cruised past our boat.
Luckily, I had grabbed my drone on the way out the door, and was able to capture what you see here in the last clip. Take a mental note of its size compared to our 42 foot vessel.
On this day of giving thanks, I can’t thank Glenn enough for enabling such an amazing experience with his generosity. Happy Thanksgiving.
