“Deaf City Journal is the de facto Tribe Tapes Of America publication dedicated to international noise and industrial-adjacent artists at leisure – the focus is not strictly music but espousing the other interests and passions of those involved with such a niche movement. My desire for this is to be a showcase of artists I admire and make somewhat of a permanent archive of their work – interviews, essays, artwork, stories, photography, rants or what-have-you…”

Hex Minora “Idolatry: The Second Death 1992 - 1998” CD W/ 8-Page Booklet
Historic first-ever compilation of the extreme UK electronics trio directed by dominatrix / model Dannielle Black, along with Barry Fuller and Jason Whittaker they were active in the early 90s tape trading scene putting out their own releases through the BV Tapes imprint. Often bearing explicit artwork, label operations grinded to an abrupt halt when UK customs seized a shipment of fetish magazines from Paris which included a photographic feature on Danni. Fuller was threatened with prosecution over importing pornography, and the project only recorded for a few more years until an attempted move into early computer recording signalled the group’s permanent demise.

“In the mid-1990s, Mason Jones of Charnel Music edited and published four thick, annual issues of Ongaku Otaku magazine. Operating from San Francisco, California, Mason’s goal was to spread the word about the compelling independent music being produced in Japan. With dozens of interviews and articles, and many hundreds of reviews, the magazine was an influential voice, sharing words about Aube, Cornelius, Yamamoto Seiichi (Boredoms, Rovo, Omoide Hatoba), Shizuka, Jojo Hiroshige (Hijokaidan, Alchemy Records), Melt-Banana, Ruins, KK Null, and many more. This facsimile edition brings the original pages to readers three decades later.”

“Generator grew out of the international mail art and cassette networking scene I was involved in while living in the Lower East Side during the eighties. I opened Generator to find out how much of an interest there was in the same scene locally. Generator quickly became a meeting place for artists and musicians who might have otherwise only known each other through the post. It also provided an opportunity to expose this culture to a new audience of people who were happy to stumble upon it. Visitors to Generator could play tapes, read zines, experience immersive sound environments and attend concerts and performances.”
