A good start is half the work 💪
A few weeks ago, during the National Duathlon Championships, I already felt my shape was improving. But last weekend @challengesalou was the real test, my first triathlon of the season.
After a solid winter on the bike, the big question was whether I had built enough running volume to run a strong half marathon, especially with Hamburg only 4 weeks away.
This winter the focus shifted from “running faster” to “running better.” More relaxed, more efficient, more consistent. And for the first time in a long while, that started to show in a race too.
Because Hamburg is the main goal, I trained straight through this race. So even after arriving in Spain, training continued as normal.
Race morning started early at 4:00 AM, but mentally I felt calmer than usual. Less stress, more confidence, and most importantly: excitement to race again.
The swim was honestly terrible 😅
Got hit on my goggles early on and never really found my rhythm. Then lost the group after a slow transition.
But from there things got better.
I committed fully on the bike and ended up riding huge power PBs on both average and normalized power. The “flat” course definitely wasn’t flat, but the new bike and all the strength work are clearly paying off. Now i have to work a little more on my earo position.
Then came the real test: the run.
Goal pace was sub 4:10/km. Together with @magdanieuwoudt I found a good rhythm and we helped each other through the difficult moments. The final kilometers hurt badly, but with a 4:07/km average pace I achieved another big PB.
In the end:
🏊♀️ 8th swim
🚴♀️ 8th bike
🏃♀️ 12th run
➡️ 8th overall
Not quite the top 6 I hoped for, but looking back the difference was mostly in the transitions and the swim.
Most importantly: this race confirmed that the progress is real.
A different mindset.
A different approach.
Not just trying to get faster, but trying to become a better runner and a more complete athlete.
Now a few more hard weeks towards Hamburg 👊
Couldn’t have wished for a better start to the season.
Ironman 70.3 Mallorca was one hell of a race.
The day started early at around 5:30 AM. I had some breakfast and coffee to get everything going, and by 6:45 I was in the transition zone putting the final things on the bike and organizing my T1 and T2 bags.
The swim sadly wasn’t my best performance. The first part was flat and really enjoyable, but as soon as we left the bay the waves kicked in. I lost quite a bit of speed there, partly because I’m still not that experienced in open water. Still, I managed a decent swim in 35 minutes.
T1 was long, almost a 1 km transition and I struggled a bit getting my socks on. 7min
The first part of the bike ride went really well. I averaged around 36 km/h, but then came the climb. My crankset was slightly too big for a climb with strong headwinds, and my cadence dropped to around 60 rpm in the lowest gear I had, which cost me a lot of time and energy. By the time I finished the climb and descent, I was already 2 hours in and only around 55 km done. The final part of the ride went strong again at around 35 km/h average, which confirmed one thing: my next race course should definitely be flatter. Bike split: 3 hours.
T2 went smoothly. I tried leaving my shoes on the bike for the first time, and it actually worked really well. I could jump off the bike and head straight into transition. T2: 3 minutes.
The run started strong at around 4:40–4:50/km, but after 7 km I realized my original goal time was no longer realistic. I slowed down a little, kept racing, but also took the chance to enjoy the atmosphere and the crowd a bit more. Run split: 1:47.
Overall, I absolutely loved the course and the atmosphere, and I really enjoyed the first race of the season.
Next up: another half distance race.

You know that moment… you definitely don’t need another pair of running shoes… but somehow they end up in your cart anyway 👀
Jokes aside, here’s the truth:
Running shoes don’t just wear out based on distance.
Even if you’re not running that much, your shoes can lose their support over time because:
- the cushioning foam breaks down
- the structure weakens
- and your body starts compensating (hello random aches)
A good rule of thumb:
Replace them every 500–800 km, or about every 6–12 months, even if they still look fine.
So is buying another pair always necessary?
Probably not.
But will a fresh pair make you want to go for that run, hit that dopamine boost, and feel like a main character?
…also yes 🏃♀️✨
Call it unnecessary.
We call it, run motivation.

That’s what actually makes the difference.
The right wetsuit will:
• Improve your body position
• Reduce drag
• Save energy for the bike & run
And the wrong one?
👉 It slows you down.
At TRIAT, we help you find the wetsuit that actually fits your body and your swim style.
