Life isn’t fair
In October of 2022, I was finishing up a shoot out of town when, my then-fiance, Aneesa told me she was going to the ER.
She had caught the cold that I was getting over and she said it was the worst she’d ever felt.
Within a few hours she was in a room and I was on my way. What followed was 15 days of missed IV sticks, no food for most of the day until we’d find out if we could get into an OR or not, lots of tests, doctors, and questions, but not a lot of answers.
When she arrived at the hospital she was in renal (kidney) failure. After 15 days, we were allowed to go home with a high dosage of prednisone and the question of what caused this problem in the first place. Over the next few months and a few more hospital stays we learned that Aneesa had proliferative glomerulonephritis with monoclonal immunoglobulin deposits (PGNMID). A rare and somewhat new condition.
In PGNMID an unknown agent triggers an immune response. This immune response has no target and no off switch. Over time, the antibodies build up in the filters within the kidneys. They damage the filters and ultimately cause inflammation and scarring of the kidneys, reducing their efficiency permanently.
Eventually, Aneesa was treated with rituxan (a lymphoma treatment) and it suppressed her immune system and slowed the damage being done to her kidneys, but it was too little, too late. Her kidney function was not enough to sustain her life and in April of 2024 Aneesa began hemo-dialysis. We have since moved on to peritoneal dialysis (home dialysis) and that leads us to today.
Aneesa needs a kidney.
Waiting for a deceased donor, especially in California is a long process, especially for someone with O+ blood. 3.5 years after listing there is a 20% chance of getting a kidney. 6.5 years after listing, that becomes a 50/50 chance. After TEN YEARS of being on the transplant list, the chance of actually being able to get a kidney is only a 65% chance.

I brought a lens back from the dead.
When looking for c mount lenses, specifically old Taylor, Taylor & Hobson / old Cooke glass. I stumbled across a couple outliers.
This is one of them, the TTH 1.5" lens in a bell and howell mount. A simple and proprietary bayonet design used for old double 8 and super 8 cameras.
After about a month of iterating on and off. I have finally created a 3D printable mount that allows focus to infinity!
Roughly covering a 4:3 aspect ratio on a super 35 sensor, this lens will slot nicely in between my 2" Ivotal and my 1" TTH or Ivotal (Still trying to decide what I want to use)
Excited to start messing with lens optics to see if I can get my 0.5" Ivotal to play nicely as well.
