A change is needed on the local level and in Congress. Please VOTE. Looking at the state of this country. It's not just about the President, The Senate and Congress are doing us a disservice. And on a local level, our heads of our community are not educating our children. They are not taking care of our neighborhoods and they are bleeding our pockets with local tax increases on our homes and more. Please wash this system and VOTE! If you have a good representative, stick with him or her. If not, they gotta go. #ForThePeople
On the Cherokee Ridge Alpine Trail in Alabama overlooking Lake Martin. A little Black History: Before its creation in 1926, the area now covered by Lake Martin held a thriving Black community called Kowaliga, founded by John Jackson Benson, a man born into slavery on that same land. After freedom, Benson purchased his former master’s plantation, growing it into a prosperous 3,000-acre economic hub with a school, sawmill, and a Black-owned railroad. There you are: Another thriving Black community flooded out underneath a lake. As I stand on native land looking at what was an industrious Black city in America snuffed out. My heart weeps.
