Grazie, Sophie, for bringing a taste of Tuscany to Breck, and for sharing your wines and your story with our guests and us!
And, of course: thanks to all those who gathered with us in the dining room — you made the night a special one.
Run (do not walk) to @vinosabor and get a glass of the @tregole . It’s so good. And thank you to @demetriusr42 for your time and for allowing Annette and I to experience what @vinosabor has to offer. ✨💐🥂🍷
Check out my latest Q & A with the amazing Sophie Conte, founder and winemaker at @tregole in Chianti Classico. Sophie is beyond awesome and so are her wines. Link in IG bio to latest newsletter. Ask for her wines at your local wine shop — you will not be sorry!! ❤️🍷🇮🇹
Tregole is an agricultural wonder tucked into the high forests of Castellina in Chianti Classico, where farming traditions run far deeper than wine alone.
For centuries, this land has been shaped by artisans and farmers cultivating herbs, vegetables, and vines high above the valley floor, surrounded by dense woodland and open skies.
The name Tregole, meaning “three throats” in Latin, refers to its remarkable position atop three steep gullies, looking southeast toward Radda. The estate occupies the site of a historic Etruscan watchtower, standing at the northern edge of Castellina at elevations between 500 and 600 meters.
Today, Tregole is a tiny, five-hectare estate in the village of Castellina in Chianti, run by proprietor and winemaker Sophie Conte. A first-generation winemaker, Sophie had little interest in wine until just 15 years ago, when she fell deeply in love with Sangiovese. Her parents had purchased the historic estate in 1998 as a vacation home, leasing the vineyards to neighboring producers for years. In 2015, Sophie made the decisive choice to reclaim the land and found Tregole, beginning her own journey as the estate’s winemaker.
The wines, Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva, and Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, are all produced exclusively from estate vineyards surrounding the property. The vines, many between 20 and 50 years old, are planted entirely to 100% Sangiovese. The upper Castellina zone where Tregole lies is widely regarded as the most compelling part of the subzone, prized for its altitude, exposure, and tension-driven wines.
Tregole stands as a clear expression of what is most exciting in Chianti Classico today: a new generation of thoughtful, energized winemakers reviving historic sites, farming with intention, and redefining the future of the region, one vineyard at a time. #chianti #chianticlassico #tuscany #italianwine
