In addition to doing so much for Charlotte and our precious urban canopy, this valued partner of ours also shows up for our runners on race day.
Not only do they help us with our recycling and trash as a part of our Green Team, they give runners saplings (listed below) to plant !🌱 Rooty will be handing them out on race day—go by and say hi!
Eastern Redbud, Cercis canadensis – A deciduous, fast growing native tree that grows in full sun to partial shade. At full maturity, it can between 20′-30′ tall and 25′-35′ feet wide. Known for their showy pea-like fuchsia flowers in the early spring.
Elderberry, Sambucus canadensis – A small, typically multi-stem, deciduous tree with showy white flowers that bloom in the summer. They grow best in full to partial sun and have an average growth rate. At full maturity, it can be between 5-12′ tall and 6-12′ wide. Flowers are followed by purple-black fruit produced in clusters.
Many thanks to @usbank and the U.S. Bank Foundation for their support of our planting 69 trees at the Shelton Knoll apartments on March 27. We recently received funding from the U.S. Bank Foundation Opportunity Fund, which will help increase tree canopy and habitat for wildlife.
This is the first part of a larger project to continue planting trees and preserving tree canopy in our Treesilience neighborhoods. Special thanks to the 20 volunteers from U.S. Bank who joined us for the tree planting and 13 community volunteers, including our TreeMasters who helped lead the event.
