From one blank to three bowls. This coring system allows me to waste less and create more. 👌

A reclaimed sweetgum log, nearly passed over.
Opened to reveal bold black spalting at its peak — like calligraphy drawn by nature.
Hand-turned into a spherical form so the lines can flow naturally.
Available in my Etsy shop.

As a Taiwanese-American maker beginning this chapter later in life, it feels especially meaningful to be popping up this weekend with @akassaco alongside other AAPI artisans.
I will probably be the most white-haired maker in the room, but I’m honored to be among such talent and excited to share my work with the community.
I’ll be bringing some new pieces to debut, along with the resin + wood creations that have been favorites at recent markets. Hope to see you there!

🪵 Hand-turned, one at a time, guided by the grain of the wood.
We’re welcoming a brand new maker to the AKASSA Market. Meet Freeman Huang of @Treemanstudio . 🌳
Freeman is a father, grandfather, and artist who discovered woodturning in his 70s. What began
as a quiet, steady practice in a garage workshop has become a meaningful way to create objects with purpose and longevity — hand-turned wooden bowls, dishes, vases, and vessels made from reclaimed or responsibly sourced hardwoods. Each piece shaped one at a time on the lathe, guided by the natural grain and character of the wood. Now a family endeavor,
Freeman’s daughter Evita manages branding and markets as a way to bring his work to a wider
audience — and as an excuse for the two of them to spend more time together.
Freeman has deep roots in the Taiwanese community of the San Gabriel Valley. He raised his daughters in Temple City, spent years running a Mandarin-language newspaper serving this community, and now — with newfound time after retiring in October 2025 — has found renewed purpose and joy in his craft. Being part of AKASSA during AAPI Heritage Month, just down the
road from home, means everything.
We are honored to have him here.
Bring your market passport and come find their table at Open House.

When one craft meets another.
Thank you @culinarycourtney for bringing to life this large black walnut bowl with your beautiful food.
There’s nothing better than seeing a piece from my workshop find its place at the table.

Rigging a rotisserie motor to my lathe unlocked something I’d been chasing for a while — a marbled epoxy effect exactly as I’d been envisioning it.
Four colors of epoxy and a bamboo pick on avocado wood — dabbing pearl white where the colors meet, like a dragonfly touching water, creating pattern and depth on the surface.
