Graduation is just the beginning—not the finish line. At Treehouse, we know that what comes next can feel exciting, uncertain, and everything in between. One thing we’ve learned from the young people we serve: you don’t have to have it all figured out to keep moving forward. What matters is staying open, staying resilient, and believing in what’s possible for your future. Now it’s your turn: What’s one piece of advice you’d share with this year’s graduates? Let’s fill the comments with wisdom, encouragement, and real talk for the next generation.

What does it really take for young people to grow? 🌱 It takes more than encouragement. It takes stable support, access to education, and adults who show up—consistently. For young people in foster care, growth doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when basic needs are met, potential is recognized, and someone says, “You belong here, and your future matters.” This spring, we’re celebrating what makes growth possible—and the community that helps make it real. Learn about how you can join that community using the link in our bio. #SpringOfGrowth #EducationEquity #FosterCare #TreehouseImpact

When a squad of police officers arrived at her Nevada home, Savannah assumed they were there for her parents. Yet she was the one who left in a police car. She spent time in a local shelter before DCYF brought her to Washington, where she bounced from placement to shelter and back again. All the while, she was expected to pay attention in class and dutifully do homework, like everything was fine. “I really didn’t like anybody,” says Savannah. That included Sherry, the Treehouse Education Specialist who saw her at school. “The first time I met her, I did fire her,” she laughs sheepishly. Withstanding the distrust and defense mechanisms of youth who’ve experienced trauma is part of the job for Treehouse specialists; and Savannah’s specialist kept showing up. “Being in the foster care system, a lot of people, like, do give up on you,” shares Savannah, “and it came hard for me to realize that people do care about me.” Read more on the Treehouse blog. The Washington State legislative session began on January 12, 2026, and wrapped up on March 12, 2026. It was a tough 60-day session focused on addressing continued state budget challenges. Treehouse’s main priority was to restore Graduation Success program funding that was eliminated in April 2025. We were grateful that OSPI, DCYF, and Governor Ferguson supported our efforts, reflecting a meaningful step after last year’s deep cuts and putting us in a strong position as the 2026 session began. Read on our blog about the outcome of our legislative priorities and other impacts to youth and young adults who have experienced foster care. Link is in our bio.

Who is Treehouse? Since 1988, Treehouse has stepped in to level the playing field and close those gaps—walking beside young people who are navigating the hardest moments of their lives. And we've learned what works: since expanding our focus on education, graduation rates for students in foster care in Washington state have nearly doubled. By combining services to young people with systems change, Treehouse offers what no other organization in Washington does: a pathway to stability, a community of support, and a real chance to reach one’s potential.
