Today is the day I cleaned my pins! Traditional lacemakers use brass pins for their work, and after a while they discolour and turn black. A quick look at the internet and I found the ideal recipe. 1tbsp vinegar, 1tbsp washing up liquid and a cup of hot water. Swish pins around, rinse, then lay out to dry.
