Interest-free emergency loans, scholarships, childcare support and other community programs are just some of the ways the Air Force Aid Society continues supporting Airmen, Guardians and their families.
AFAS leaders visited Travis Air Force Base May 5 to meet with commanders, first sergeants and community partners to discuss available resources and strengthen connections across the Team Travis community. Retired U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Ed Thomas, AFAS chief executive officer, and Packy Lyden, AFAS chief development officer, spoke with Airmen about programs designed to provide support during times of need.
AFAS has supported military families for more than 80 years and continues evolving to meet the needs of today’s force.

Nurses & Technicians Week is a celebratory week in which nurses and technicians are shown appreciation for their hard-work and care of others. It ended on May 12th, which was picked because of Florence Nightingale's birthday, who was the most prominent nurse in modern day history. 🏥
To culminate the weeklong celebration, the Anointing of the Hands was performed by base chaplains at the 60th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron building. The Anointing of the Hands is a symbolic rite that blesses the hands for the service of others and the sanctification of the community. A passage was read called the Good Samaritan before oil was applied to the palms of the hands of the nurses and technicians in attendance. The ceremony serves as a powerful visual reminder of a lifelong commitment to labor and healing, and it was a voluntary participation event to those in attendance.

Our SERE Team conducted water survival training at Lake Berryessa last week alongside the CAL FIRE🌊
The training equipped Airmen with essential survival techniques designed to increase confidence and preparedness in open-water emergency situations. Training scenarios included helicopter hoist operations and rescue procedures that highlighted interagency cooperation between the U.S. Air Force and CAL FIRE to strengthen emergency response and rescue capabilities.
Whether in the air or on the ground, Team Travis trains to remain ready for any environment. ✈️

Compassion in action, care that keeps #TeamTravis ready 🚑
As National Nurses Week comes to a close, we recognize the vital role nurses play in caring for Airmen, families and the broader military community every day. Through compassion, resilience and unwavering dedication, nurses help sustain the health, readiness and strength behind the mission.
Thank you to all nurses for your continued service and commitment to caring for others.

Behind every mission is a team ready to support, deploy and sustain the force. 💪
Travis honorary commanders participated in a 60th Mission Support Group immersion tour May 1st, gaining a firsthand look at the deployment process from beginning to end.
During the tour, honorary commanders received briefings on simulated deployment gear, weapons, military working dog capabilities, firefighting equipment, communications tools and mortuary services before attending the 60th Air Mobility Wing 1st Quarter Awards ceremony.
The immersion gave civic leaders a closer look at the Airmen, equipment and mission support functions that help enable rapid global mobility. 🌎✈️🐕🦺🔥📡

🎶 Service through sound!
The U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West performed for students at Rosemont High School in Sacramento, California, as part of a “Music in our Schools” outreach series April 16.
The visit gave students the opportunity to hear live music, learn about Air Force musicianship and engage with Airmen during a Q&A session. Events like this help strengthen the connection between the Air Force and local communities while showcasing the many ways Airmen serve beyond the flight line. 🎺✈️
