We were delighted to be invited to participate in the vote for the first release of Modesta’s 20/20 Pinot Noir. Each year, they will release their Estate Pinot Noir in a young, fresh style unoaked and unaged to highlight the purity of the fruit.
🍷🍷🍷
Three Pinot Noir samples were presented blind, distinguished only by coloured stickers.
Heather tasted all three and shared the following notes:
Yellow🟨Aromas of cherry nibs candy with subtle leather and earthy undertones. On the palate, black currant, eucalyptus, cherry, and bramble come through, with slight bitterness and herbaceous notes. The wine shows bright acidity and very soft tannins.
Orange🟧A perfumed, lifted nose of potpourri and flowers, layered with wild berry candies and fresh dark cherry. The palate mimics nose and reveals blackberry candy, cherry syrup, and cassis liqueur, with slightly more structure than the Yellow dotted sibling.
Red🟥Slightly deeper in colour, with aromas of stewed fruits, ripe blackberry, roasted tomato, and balsamic notes. The fruit aromas continue to open up with time in the glass. The palate is fuller, warmer, and sweeter, with brambleberry flavours, fresh green notes, and firmer tannins than the Yellow and Orange samples.

All three of these Pinot Noirs display a rich ruby-purple colour with medium transparency. With the vines still only five years old, it will be exciting to see how they develop. They all show excellent energy and promise!
Many thanks to Mark and Tanya
