outrageously — some might even say inappropriately— i have been named by @rollingstone as one of the "Future 25" and interviewed by the generous and incisive @son_of_schonfeld whose writing ive loved for some time. in it we discuss anti-gearheadism, uzbekh food, and i finally go public about getting fired from the strand bookstore, the most humiliating workplace environment i've ever experienced. also the specter of @badabingrecords and @squeezeboxbooks . also ive never been to marrakesh im just guessing it rules

heyyyy i covered jessica pratt’s 2012 debut self-titled record “jessica pratt” in full . if you know anything about the immensity of the human heart & its labyrinths & aching mystery then you probably know there’s no set of songs that plumbs it more thoroughly and tenderly than this classic album. it’s a collection of simply perfect songs, rendered in very opaque, sparse, occasionally forbidding ways. i became a real believer in this record almost exactly 5 years ago, on my 21st birthday, when i first really felt the cold winds of time rippling at my jacket. without realizing it i ended up engraving the songs all deep into my brain and whenever i’d be at work or taking a shower i’d find myself imagining all sorts of speculative arrangements and reconfigurations of them.
this past october i told my record label that i had completed this full-album-cover project years ago and had been idly sitting on it. this was a lie (i was tipsy…. on wine!!!!) they said oh wow that’s great, let’s put it out in february. this was problematic because while i had indeed attempted to cover a few of these songs in 2022, i did not actually have a deliverable album by any means . so i spent november and december really getting into it and now here’s this artifact.
the really valuable moments on this album i owe to A.) @manual_latency , who gives a sultry and heartrending vocal performance on CASPER —! holy moly 😍 i just adore bee’s voice so much and i could listen to it for days and days on end and B.) @lilalifting who unknowingly played violin all over MIDNIGHT WHEELS — they are a real virtuosic genius who allows me to chop-n-screw performances we recorded for a different project entirely.
also, the band and i are going on tour in the WEST COAST for the FIRST TIME in MAY. tickets are ON SALE at 10AM PST / 1PM EST. link in BIO!!!!!!
also, there is also going to be a proper original Asher White record later this year and it’s really quite special.
