Title: “baby photo” (2026) Artist: angel gunn // @translantis Medium: hand sewn 3D soft sculpture, acrylic and watercolour on canvas Dimensions: fish 47x37 inches, egg 12 x 12 inches Materials Used: upcycled wool fabric, recycled polyfill, recycled chiffon, felt, thread, acrylic and watercolour on canvas Artist Statement: “baby photo” was sewn and painted by hand, in honour of the northern pacific salmon. a salmon remembers the river they were born in, and they will return there when it’s time to spawn and die. in this tongue in cheek pairing, angel reflects on the awkwardness of growing up, of learning how to smile for photos in childhood, of moving and growing in body that’s changing and transforming around you. in seeing photos of your younger self and hearing the stories of who you were before you could remember. “baby photo” is the biggest piece ive made so far! this giant fish sculpture and the paired egg painting will be up for display from March 26-31 at 2nd Life Art Show, taking place at Take Your Time Front (652 Kingsway) @takeurtimefront can’t wait for you all to see them in person!! 🐟🌀🩵

featured artist: angel gunn @translantis !! angel (they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist and the creator of WHO GETS FULL NETS?. Born and raised on Snaw-naw-as lands and waters (also known as “Nanoose Bay”), angel is currently living and practicing on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations (also referred to as “Vancouver”). angel carries Irish & German heritage. Creating across a range of modalities including textile art, zines, digital collage, watercolour, and more, angel utilizes reclaimed and recycled materials to walk as gently as they can on this Earth. Their artistic practice often explores the intersections of grief and joy, community, presence, and struggle for liberation. Community members are invited to visit the gallery exhibition and attend one of the artist-led upcycling workshops! DIY creations include stuffed bag charms, making and mending jewelry, sock bunnies, stop motion animation puppets, beaded garlands, and more! Attend the full 2 hours or finish your upcycling project at your own pace. No fees to attend. Space is limited for the artist-led workshops so please RSVP to save your seat!

The Roundhouse Community Centre is truly STACKED with incredible authors and artists this weekend, both local icons and fantastic folks from other communities and countries!! “Mask of Insatiable Corporate Greed” (2026) is up for the duration of May 2026 at @outsidersandothers on Howe Street as a part of their “Loud & Proud” exhibition, along with many talented international and local artists !! Artwork Details: “Mask of Insatiable Corporate Greed” (2026) Medium: Recycled Paper Sculpture (ULINE Catalog) Dimensions: 20 x 14 inches Materials List: ULINE catalog paper, wood glue, clay, acrylic paint, upcycled microfibre cloth Art Description: the mask of insatiable corporate greed is always hungry for more. more oil. more money. more violence. more exploit. more hoarding. more zeroes. more data centres. more labour. more profit. more destruction of trees. more violence against women. more hatred towards queerness and transness. more rage. more distractions from the ever hungry maw feeding on the people. hungry hungry hungry yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum. The choice to utilize the ULINE catalog was multi-pronged. First, the ink used in the paper means it cannot be recycled through traditional means, creating even more paper waste. Secondly, ULINE as a company has deeply gendered dress codes enforced at their offices and factories, strictly requiring women to wear skirts at all times. On a third note, ULINE was and continues to be one of the biggest benefactors of MAGA (they donated 100s of millions to Trump’s campaigns). And still they’re hungry for more.
