Five years ago, we launched our organization with a simple mission: to promote nuanced, accurate coverage of trans rights and communities in the media, and to support the careers of gender-expansive journalists.
In the face of unprecedented attacks on trans people and an uncertain legal landscape, this work has never been more urgent.
Help us to continue reclaiming trans narratives for another five years and beyond.
➡️ Fundraise with us: Create your own, personalized donation page through our campaign page (🔗 in bio) and share it with folks in your community.
➡️ Share our story: Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing member testimonials and more about the work we’ve been doing. We encourage you to amplify them.
➡️ Donate directly - If you have the funds, we’d welcome your individual contributions. No amount is too small.

Last week, myself and @transjournalists hosted an event in San Francisco — a series of live interviews conducted by trans journalists with four folks engaged in the fight for trans rights. This is, in part, what promoting accurate, nuanced coverage of our rights and communities and supporting the careers of gender expansive journalists looks like.
We’re building a future of journalism where stories about trans people are just, ethical, and informed by our leadership. Support that work by following @transjournalists . 💜

Who gets to tell the story shapes the story itself. 📰
At The New York Times’ annual shareholders meeting, a parent asked a direct question about the real-world impact of its coverage of trans communities. It is a question that points to something bigger: accountability, and who is actually in the newsroom when these stories are told.
As TJA Executive Director Tre’vell Anderson says, trans people are still largely absent from newsrooms. That absence shows up in the coverage. If newsrooms want to get these stories right, trans people need to be part of telling them. 🏳️⚧️

It’s almost been one year since the launch of the Trans Journalists Association and MuckRock’s partnership to document the impact of anti-trans federal activities across the nation. We’ve filed more than 350 public records requests — and recently received a batch of documents relating to the censorship of LGBTQ+ identities in sexual education materials.

Visibility isn’t just about being seen — it’s about how our stories are told.
The Trans News Initiative (TNI) has tracked 190,500+ articles about trans communities from 2020–2025 to show who is telling our stories, what’s being covered, and what’s often left out.
🎭 What we found: • Pop culture dominates headlines • Policy coverage and stories of resilience, resistance, and solutions are underrepresented • Imbalanced media shapes public perception — and real lives
