As we recognize Mental Health Awareness Month and AAPI Heritage Month this May, we want to uplift youth voices and continue creating spaces where mental health conversations feel safe, open, and community centered.
Recently we asked youth, "what can support look like when someone is having a bad day?" Their responses remind us that sometimes support starts with simple words, honesty, and reminding someone they are not alone. Small words can have a big impact.

“The impacts don’t disappear just because the headlines move on.”
In this conversation, KaYing Yang of the Southeast Asian Freedom Network and Xay Yang from Transforming Generations remind us that healing, safety, and stability take time — and that community care is what carries people through.
From mental health support for students and families, to mutual aid, to neighbors and organizations stepping in with food, skills, and solidarity — this is what it looks like when Minnesota shows up for one another.
“My power is my community.” 💛
