I’m a merchant marine by trade, avid mountain athlete, and general lover of fitness. Over the past 5 years I’ve been finding out the best way to workout for myself. Especially when I’m limited on time at work. I’ve tried everything from CrossFit, to body building and found helpful aspects in every method along the way. From that I took my favorite aspects from each thing I learned and combined it all into one style. If you’re bored with your routine, are struggling to lean out/build muscle, or want to build durability, check out the links in my bio or follow because I post workouts often!

Small pitch about me and the point of all this. I was never a big social media person prior to this account. After sharing my experiences I felt really empowered to share more with one goal help somebody with fitness or find a new passion. I don’t live the most dialed life, but what I share here is who I am and real things that I experience/ have done. As always thank you.

I’m training for my second ultramarathon, a 100k race in Utah, while at sea working 12 hr days on an oil tanker. I will have about 60 days on land to get ready after I leave the ship, so I’m starting my prep now. The running clip is from a different day I just hate filming every session. Follow me on @strava or here if you want to see the process! #ultramarathon #running #fitness #atsea #betterthanyesterday

This is the method I’ve followed basically since I started working at sea. I’m 31 now and I will stick to this as long as it makes sense. Time efficient, effective, and engaging enough to be able to do them for months on end. Fitness is a personal journey, find out what works best for you is the best thing you can do. My advice is just my personal experience not the gospel nor is for everyone. Check out my ship shape highlights for dozens of free workouts, or if you want a more structured plan check my programs out.

Another day of working and training for an ultra marathon at sea. Today was actually a really fun day and one of my favorite parts about this job is climbing up on the mast so that’s a win! Staying consistent with the miles even though I would blow up the treadmill if I had the chance. Fight on for another 2-3 weeks before I make it home

I get so much fitness content on Instagram of stuff I don’t really want to do but feel like I should because I see it so often. I have to remind myself often that it’s okay to see other people doing cool stuff and not have to dive in 100% on it, if I know it’s not really something I’d enjoy spending my time doing. Fitness is all about longevity, consistency, and enjoyment for me personally.

Outdoor core workouts at steel beach. Please excuse the mega thirst trap it’s just part of the Instagram process. This core routine is as simple as it gets but I’ve done it for years and will always do it. Why because it works and I feel good. Don’t over complicate it. I consistently post workouts and fitness stuff like this so follow for more if you enjoyed this! 3 rounds for time - 20 dead bugs - 45 second hollow hold - 10 pallof push each side

Same day, different sh!t?? This is my fitness account but here and there I like to show what my job looks like (after all I’m here half the year!) I genuinely enjoy my time at sea, it’s a great job for me personally. But I do it for the off time really.

Three workouts for the rest of the week. I’ve been lacking on posting WOD due to my ultra prep. But I’ll always try to get one out like this weekly. Here are some of my favorite lifts from the archives and recent history. If you like these follow for more. Have fun!

3 weeks left on board of my trip, 3 weeks down of training. Progressively bumping up the running volume while focusing a lot more on incline work. I started dialing back my HIIT, And MetCON workouts because the intensity of those paired with running and working 12 hrs a day was getting to me. During my first ultramarathon I felt amazing the entire time because I went in really strong so I’m gonna keep up with heavy compounds this entire block. Working 12 hr days from midnight to noon then getting in long training sessions has been tiring but definitely a fun way to pass the time on board.

Workouts like this have always been a staple in my training plan. If you’re limited on time, or just want to maximize your caloric burn starting or finishing a workout with something like this can be really helpful. Add this to your next workout and let me know how you feel!
