Tucked into the edge of a Cotswolds village, this former bakery had been left to time. A crumbling stone shell with a modest footprint, but something about its presence felt worth preserving.
We kept the original stone at one end, introduced a calm, contemporary form at the other, and shaped everything around how the clients wanted to live. Open-plan space for gathering. Natural flow between inside and out. Quiet materials. Considered restraint.
It’s a modest sized home, but it holds space beautifully.

Timeless design isn’t about trends. It’s about how a space settles into your life.
We draw from nature’s quiet logic. Materials that soften over time. Buildings that evolve without losing their clarity. It’s not just about longevity, but about spaces that feel more right with every season that passes.
At Trace, we design homes that endure. Not just structurally, but emotionally.

Not every detail needs to speak loudly. In fact, some of the most powerful design moments are the ones that feel quiet and resolved.
We’ve always been drawn to restraint, to spaces that hold their shape with ease, where materials are chosen for how they feel over time, and where every gesture serves the life within.
This project gave us another chance to explore that. A home shaped by proportion, light and calm clarity. No excess, no noise. Just considered design with lasting purpose.

What makes a home truly exceptional?
It’s not just about square footage or finishes—it’s about how a space feels. The way light moves across a room, how materials age and evolve, and the effortless connection between indoors and out. These are the details that define a home that lasts.
We design spaces where every decision is intentional. Light isn’t just let in; it’s choreographed. Materials aren’t just chosen for aesthetics; they are selected for how they will develop character over time. Flow isn’t just about function; it’s about how a home feels to live in every day.
Great design isn’t just about the present. It’s about creating homes that remain timeless—crafted to stand beautifully for years to come.

Instagram Post – Reimagine Your Home: Extend, Renovate, or Rebuild?
What if your home could not just accommodate your life, but elevate it?
At some point, every homeowner stops and wonders: Is this house still right for me? Maybe the spaces feel disconnected, the light isn’t as generous as it could be, or the materials no longer reflect the level of refinement you expect.
Some homes need more space, some need better space, and some require a complete reimagination. The right decision depends on your home’s potential and the vision you have for how you want to live.
At Trace Architects, we work with clients to determine whether extending, renovating, or rebuilding is the best path forward.
* An extension can unlock flow and light, introducing materials that enhance warmth and connection.
* A renovation can breathe new life into an existing space, refining every detail to align with your evolving lifestyle.
* A new build offers complete clarity, ensuring every element is designed with purpose, intention, and longevity in mind.
There is no single answer, only the right answer for you.
Wondering what your home could become? Let’s explore the possibilities.

Where nature meets architecture in the heart of London
In a city that never stops, we've created a moment of perfect calm. Our London project featured in @enkimagazine , is a modern treehouse that rises among mature trees, offering both shelter and connection to nature.
Working hand-in-hand with @yamstudios , we designed a home where light dances across limestone and timber throughout the day, where floor-to-ceiling windows frame garden views, and where covered terraces extend living spaces into the landscape.
This urban sanctuary represents what we value most: architecture that responds to its setting, materials that tell a story, and spaces that improve with time.
Swipe to see how this home embraces its natural surroundings while providing a serene retreat from city life.

Sustainable, Smart, and Built to Last – A Trace Architects Project Featured in The Times
At Trace Architects, we approach every project with a commitment to thoughtful design, sustainability, and longevity. Our latest feature in The Times showcases a home that embodies these principles—a 2,500 sq. ft., five-bedroom house in Oxfordshire, designed by our own Giles Lovegrove.
Built for just £300,000, this project proves that high-performance, eco-conscious design doesn’t have to cost the earth. It’s a home that reflects our ethos: combining efficient construction methods, reclaimed materials, and a deep understanding of modern living.
Key elements of the build:
✔ SIPs construction – An airtight, energy-efficient structure designed for longevity
✔ Reclaimed and upcycled materials – Sliding doors, bathroom fittings, and finishes with history and character
✔ Ground screw foundations – A low-carbon alternative to traditional concrete, reducing waste and installation time
This project is more than just a home, it’s a statement about the future of design—beautiful, functional, and built to last.
At Trace Architects, we work on projects that challenge conventional thinking, integrating sustainability and modern design in ways that feel effortless yet deeply considered.
If you’re thinking about a bespoke project, whether it’s a home, extension, or creative space, we’d love to discuss how innovative design can bring your vision to life.
