As some of you already know, I’ve made a career in music for a decade. My mom has been singing for over 50 years as a Vietnamese icon (unbiased!) and storytelling through song has been pivotal for both of us in very different ways. I wrote a film called “NO MORE SAD SONGS” because my mom always wondered why all my songs were emo af. I learned I’ve had the luxury of sadness she could never afford. SO, I’m making films now and this is my debut and im so proud of it and I can’t wait to keep telling the stories so embedded in my soft and strong heart. I made this “music video” with an original song for the film where I included strictly clips from the film to streamline my need for attention. Jk. I really just want to drive home that this happens to be my favorite song I’ve done in a while and so far my favorite movie I’ve made :) and I wanted to save you time… If you love the song, you can listen to it anywhere you find music. And if you want to watch the film, you can watch it for free, on @vimeo ! TY FOR ALL THE LOVE. Link in bio! #Shortfilm #musicvideo #indiemusic

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the #fallofsaigon, of my mother who came here to provide a life for me, and of where I came from, today and forever (beyond #aapi month) I’m celebrating identity—sure, and culture definitely, but what Im celebrating is deeply embracing a language that knows how to both weep and also rejoice; i’m so grateful music and storytelling has been a language i get to use. Singing this song has brought so much healing within and around me and has made me more than ever, my mother’s. Sending big love and bigger freedom to my community!! Love youuu. Ps sorry this song cover is so emo. Special thanks to @newwavedocumentary for having it a part of the incredible doc and @lohariel for producing this gem and to obvi my mom @carolkimofficial who gave me pipes jk—gave me life!!!

Vietnam on film. Nov 2025. Haven’t been back since 2010. Still taller than most people there, and still in awe of my mother tongue, mother country and mother-mother.

For 35 years I was carried by friendship. Carving out understanding of what love is. Knowing my friends (and being known by them) has made me a better person, daughter, partner, artist, future wife, and definitely, friend. I understand a certain kind of special love that informs me how to move about in ways I thought would be frightening, yet I’m just so excited. As lives naturally split us into a million different directions, I am so grateful that we can always find each other. And that we always do. I love my girl(s) Special thanks for @clairethomas for the scans, @tanjamostow for the bridal baptism and planning this with so many others I am deeply, madly and truly obsessed with.

Every love song I’ve ever written could not come close to what I know now, and every film I will make, will tell the parts of me I’m only now seeing. Life is long and short and good and hard and full. This is the fire horse meeting with my fire rabbit reminding me that good things literally take time.

24 lines for 12 months. Just cried, then screamed in my car all that 2025 brought and didn’t. To 2026, HNY friends. God, freakin’, speed.

As the great timothee chalamet once recently said, because there will be critics or haters, and in a sense a rejection of sorts, all the more reason to be the one yourself to believe and root for you. Or something like that. Which was a good reminder that liking yourself and your work is of the utmost importance.

Im not sure if getting a copy of Chantal Akerman’s “My Mother Laughs” in my hands before this trip to Vietnam was the best idea but i will say there is nothing like going back to the motherland with your mother. Learning why she left, and why she goes back and why she leaves again is becoming a framework of what home is and I’m very fortunate to get to work it all out through telling/writing/singing/sharing stories. @ineedtotalktoyou.doc

The Saigon Jazz Revival brought the energy from start to finish. From Carol Kim’s amazing performance, the behind-the-scenes moments, and a completely sold-out night. Thank you to everyone who showed up and helped make this night possible. #SaigonJazzRevival #SongCDC #NewOrleansEast #NOLAArts #CommunityCulture #VietnameseHeritage #LiveJazz #NOLAEvents #SupportLocalArtists #CommunityInAction
