We’re excited to announce our next album, MIRAGE which completes a trilogy of releases exploring the many moods of psychedelic instrumental rock beginning with FREAKOUT and continuing with our most recent 45, MANTRA.
The album is comprised of 13 tracks and brandished with vibrant art by @dawn_aquarius
The first single and video, PURPLE PANTHER, is coming later this week for your viewing pleasure.
The album will be available on cd, lp and digital starting June 12th just in time to become the soundtrack to your psychedelic summer. . Pre-orders will start before that.
We can’t wait to share more with you and play these songs when we hit the road this summer.

I was warming up the racks to finish up some TV cues when I was struck by how solitary it can be here. I do a lot of work alone but it’s also nice to work on other peoples’ music. I hope everyone is having a sweeeet Holiday. I wanted to take the opportunity to share some pics of my new studio in Portland, Or. This is has been my vibe machine in the days of lockdown and I’ve been slowly finalizing it since January. I didn’t want to ruin the full effect by sharing any work in progress shots...
I used my vintage acoustical tiles on the ceiling (not too visible) and new panels from @gikacoustics which I’m liking a lot.
This is where I mixed the most recent Trabants ep due out June 1st. I can’t wait to share some new tunes with you later this week! I also can’t wait to record someone other than myself here.

"'Mirage’ is the heart of this LP. Though it doesn’t get as fuzzy as many of the other songs on the record do, it elicits a spiritual journey which is central to the whole album. It was originally conceived as a more aggressive, driving, traditional surf song but drummer Pete Curry turned the whole thing on its side, creating a far more nuanced feel. He held back but layered the drums and it’s as if he took me from the desert and put me in the jungle. I ran with this new feeling and it led me down some paths I don’t usually follow, such as the use of vocalisations in the choruses."

I love talking about the creative process! "Purple Panther" is an interesting one to talk about because it has roots long before Trabants or even before I played an instrument. It began while watching cartoons and television as a child. Music in the background of TV shows like The Munsters or cartoons like the original 1960s animated Spider-Man and those by Hanna-Barbera, wedged themselves in my brain. Years later, once I was playing and writing, I started to realize how effective and well-crafted that background music was. This is how I started to explore the world of library music.

“Purple Panther” Is the first single from our album, MIRAGE. It’s a crime-jazz-tinged tip of the hat to some of the great mid century film and tv compositions that are touchstones of our collective cultural mind.
The song features a growling saxophone courtesy of the one and only @rondziubla and is complimented by a 2D animated video from stop motion guru, @roughntumble_productions

Being that Trabants are playing two spaghetti western shows this weekend, I wanted to build anticipation by sharing some records that influenced me in my quest to wrap my ears around the sound of the Italian western scores; shrouded in mystery and at times sonically elusive, no other compilations are as thorough as “The Ecstasy of Gold vol 1-5”.
These comps flesh out the whole spectrum of sounds that make up the genre with very little fluff.
I don’t believe these were actually licensed tracks so you may have to dig to find these and it’d probably have to be in the physical realm (try Bandcamp for digital) but if you ever wanted to know more about spaghetti western music, this is the canon as far as I’m concerned.
It’s influence on me will be on full display this weekend when Trabants play spaghetti western festival 2025 at surf dog’s in Huntington Beach Saturday afternoon and Harvelle’s in Santa Monica Sunday afternoon.
