Very excited to share the video portion of my recent wearable electronic project Embrace Me. Full video is on my YouTube in bio.
Embrace Me is an interactive performance piece based on the action of a hug, comprised of a jacket equipped with physical pressure sensors. The jacket has been altered to add glove-like attachments at the back, to aid in the interaction of a hug, allowing a non-wearer to place their hands inside the jacket upon embracing. Through the embrace, the pressure sensors are triggered at intervals which manipulate point cloud data of 3D scans of strangers of different relationships hugging. This piece has both physical and digital components and is meant to be exhibited in a dark room with a spotlight on the jacket for participants and viewers to engage and a large projection of the visuals which change through each couples embrace.
This work was derived from the striving nature of connection. Even from the data-collection phase at the onset of the project, this was evident. Approaching strangers to collect the 3D scan data meant asking them not only to be participants in the project, but to embrace the other sitting next to them. This would bring these participants to question the relationship between them, if any, and to question what constitutes emotional closeness, and how that translates into physical closeness. Not everyone asked participated. This idea of questioning connection manifests in the final piece through the nature of its use, the action of the hug for both the wearer, non-wearer, and viewer, all providing different perspectives on the experience. The wearer and non-wearer do not retain full view of the visuals as they are being manipulated live, however, the viewers are prompted to relish in this beautiful visual data-manipulation, to later become participants themselves for the viewing of others. It is intended to be worn by anyone present, with the ability to choose their non-wearer for the embrace.

One of my first welded sculptures made from scrap pieces ripped out of the streetcar tracks during construction and sandblasted clean. This one easily weighs over 100 lbs, just over 3 feet tall, and I had the time of my life working on it🤸

A sword and tire tracks. I love pieces that move with the body. I love swords. Let me design you a custom sword and we can tattoo it and I could even weld it for you. This sword has an eroded crosswalk paint pattern inside it.
