My wonderful older brother Joey died suddenly yesterday.
We were Irish twins, just eleven months apart. The news and the grief hit like lightning.
Joey was always strong, always working, always outdoors, always the first one dancing, the first one to give the hugs, the brother with the devious smile. A real brother. Never a "bro."
Joey loved artists and outsiders, rebels and the makers of all kinds of good trouble.
He loved family, his extraordinary wife and partner of forty years, my sister-in-law, Mary. He loved so fiercely his three beautiful children, Joe Jr., Erin and Jeffrey and their partners. He loved his two brothers and two sisters. He had a break-your-heart, old school love of our mom. Joan is bereft. It's not the order of things to lose your first born before he loses you. And he deeply loved our dad. He was more like Bud than any of the rest of us.
Joey, how did you leave, working not dancing, all of a sudden, in turrential rain, without us holding you as you held all of us?
🖼️Sculptor and installation artist Kennedy Yanko( @kennedyyanko ) joins The Bass during Third Thursday, March 19, in a conversation centered on her bold and intuitive sculptural process of transforming found metal and paint skin into dynamic, large-scale works. Yanko’s work is steeped in the visual language of Abstract Expressionism, Action, and Color Field Painting.
🎤Moderated by Tom Healy ( @tphealy ), award-winning writer, poet and Trustee at The Bass, they explore the physical and performative aspects of Yanko’s creative process and how she challenges the traditional boundaries of material and form.

Mary Oliver asked "What do you do when your beloved comes home?" Buddy's answer is keeping watch over his sister tonight. #dachshund #buddyandlily #maryoliver
Look what gift arrived today! The new book of poems by the ultimate Florida Man and my dear friend, but fortunately for him, not his teammate in basketball or any other sport, the great P. Scott Cunningham. He conjured O, Miami out of the not-at-all thin, humid air of the Sunshine State, his beloved but increasingly insane home. And he wrought these gorgeous and funny love poems here too. Bravo, Scott. Just wow. #floridaman #poetry #miami @omiamifestival
IMPORTANT TO READ. From Gorsuch's concurrence on the illegality of Trump's tariffs. To the Republican cowards in the House and Senate: Do your damn job.
