Meet local Grand Canyon Pink Rattlesnake
This is the most famous reptile in the park because it is found nowhere else on Earth! Its scales have a distinct pinkish hue that allows it to blend perfectly into the reddish-pink limestone and dust of the canyon walls.

Stop and Look! This Century Plant only blooms once in it's lifetime and then dies. It typically lives for 10 to 30 years (not 100).
Once it decides to bloom, it sends up a massive flower stock that can grow up to 12 inches in a single day, eventually reaching heights of 15 to 30 feet...amazing! You may get a glimpse of one at the viewpoints or hiking down into the canyon along the trails, like this one found along the South Kaibab Trail.

Meet local Desert Big Horn Sheep 🐏
The Rams (males) carry massive, spiraled horns that can weigh up to 30 lbs. The Ewes (females) have much smaller, thinner, and only slighly curved horns. Unlike the elk or mule deer that often wander through the forest areas of Tusayan, Bighorn sheep prefer the "escape terrain" of the canyon's steep rocky cliffs.

DID YOU KNOW? Grand Canyon Airport, located in Tusayan, is the only state-owned airport in Arizona. It's long 9,000-foot runway can accommodate large aircraft, including Air Force One. Presidents Joe Biden, Barack Obama and George H.W. Bush have all landed there. Before the current airport opened in 1965, flights landed at the Red Butte Airfield nearby. That original site hosted aviation legends like Amelia Earhart and Charles Lindbergh in the late 1920's.
