It all begins with a drawing; A pencil sketch that turned into a 60+ foot tall mural in Sacramento, California in honor of Tower Records and to commemorate its founder Russ Solomon. I was inspired to create in a style that felt like a giant pop art collage or something that looked like it had been pulled out of an old comic book. Eye catching even at a distance, visually legible from a block away, where it would grab your attention even from nearby interstate I-5. Bright, punchy, and fun. Every mural has its own unique set of challenges. I used a boom lift and spray painted a doodle grid this time for the layout, and then freehanded everything from there, first in pencil (the entire wall) and in paint, no projector, no tracing. Certainly my most ambitious work to date. For more photos check my SACRAMENTO story highlights.

This month on #BuiltonBroadway we sat down with John Gianulias, one of the property owners behind @towerbroadway and part of the @marketone_builders team. Tower first leased the property from John and his crew back in the early to mid 70s, and in 2006 John’s team bought the West Side. Hearing John’s stories about Tower Records was a nostalgic ride we know many of you can relate to. 💛
So, what’s next for Tower Broadway? The bottom floor will feature 5 retailers and floors 2 to 5 will house 67 new apartments.
We’re so excited to see this new development come to life. Follow @towerbroadway for the latest updates and sneak peeks as it all comes together! #TheTowerDistrict
