Last month, our ReGen lead farmers travelled to Kavango West for an agroforestry training with our partners from Aywa Forest Farm. All the way from northwest Namibia, traveling a thousand kilometers, they were amazed to see such a different part of their own country for the first time! Last year, we slowly started introducing agroforestry in their gardens, and planted some first rows for them to get to know this innovative type of agriculture. These gardens, in De Riet, Fonteine and Ekoto, are amongst the first pilot gardens that ReGen Namibia will continue to build on, together with communities, our partners and tourism members. Capacity building by training lead farmers is an essential part of ReGen’s first phase. For the lead farmers, this training at Aywa Forest Farm was about discovering what agroforestry has to offer. Agroforestry is still a relatively new concept worldwide and in Namibia, and so for them to see a mature system in practice was very inspiring. Experiencing a landscape where trees, crops and soil work together gave new perspective on how their own gardens can grow over time, and the benefits this provides for them. Our farmers did not return empty-handed. Cars were packed full with trees and plants before they headed the long way back home, ready to expand their gardens and put new ideas into practice 🌱 #wearetosco #ReGenNamibia #regeneration #agroforestry #sustainabletourism

Forests are more than just trees. 🌳✨ In Namibia, they are climate solutions, biodiversity strongholds, and vital lifelines for the people who call them home. Our success in protecting these landscapes is rooted in a powerful, long-standing partnership between local communities, donors, NGOs, and the government. 🤝🇳🇦 By supporting the legal rights of residents to manage their own land, we ensure that those who live among the trees remain their most effective guardians. This community-led approach keeps our forests, and the livelihoods they support, thriving for the long haul. #InternationalDayOfForests #CommunityConservation #CBNRM

Meet ReGen’s lead farmer, Lesley Rhyn. Lesley used to work as a chef at a lodge in southern Namibia, but he always dreamed of returning to Fonteine to start his own garden. Together, we helped him set up an agroforestry garden — and after just 10 months, he’s already selling fresh vegetables to three Wilderness lodges and welcoming guests for garden visits. Today, Lesley is inspiring nearby communities to start their own regenerative gardens. We think it might have something to do with his love for plants 🌱💚 #ReGenNamibia #wearetosco #jointhemovement #travelwithimpact #regeneration #improvinglivelihoods

What an inspiring day at the Annual General Meeting of the Namibian Chamber of Environment yesterday, whereby more than half of their members were present. All sharing one common goal, to conserve Namibia’s natural heritage and uplift its people in the many ways we can. We got an update of all the important work NCE has been doing, advocating for the environment, supporting its members and creating so many new opportunities. And we brainstormed about their priorities for next year. In the afternoon we listened to presentations of some of NCE’s members, it is incredible to see the amount of effort being done! One key message of the day was about Namibia being in an employment crisis. And the enormous potential of tourism to help address this. We cannot agree more! Our Managing Director, Lara Potma, spoke about the opportunities tourism offers in terms of its value chain, infrastructure, guest experiences and marketing amongst others, which are incredible tools through which we can better integrate it with conservation. Let us all continue working together in building a tourism industry that actively betters our places and communities. #wearetosco #conservation #sustainabletourism #namibia #powerpointfail

Last week we ventured into the desert to establish new community food forests - a way for people to support themselves and the earth at the same time. The truth is, Namibia contributes little to climate change but is deeply affected by its impacts. That’s why Aywa, together with TOSCO, is implementing regenerative gardens as part of TOSCO’s new climate action plan, enabling tourism operators to compensate for their carbon emissions in a meaningful way, by investing in climate resilience. It’s an honour to work together, planting trees for the people, the planet, the future 🌱 • #Regeneration #Agroforestry #Damaraland #DesertElephants #CommunityFarming #FoodForests #SustainableLiving #Namibia #ClimateAction #Africa #Sustainability #Community #FoodForest
