Throwing a block of clay directly out of the package? I wouldn’t recommend most do it. But it is possible as many of the movement on the wheel are similar to what happens on a wedging table🌀✌🏽 Here’s 10 kg of pretty stiff clay.
We’ve made good progress with our showroom/lounging area of the new studio. Still waiting on a few items of furniture before it is complete, but our students and guests seem to really enjoy the space❤️
A problem many have at the start of their pottery journey, the flopping top. With the right technique (and practice) it is possible to save many of these flops so you don’t have to start all over again✌🏽
Forever fascinated by this magical substance. I always encourage my students to take time for play with the clay, even in a small format. It’s a good way to familiarize yourself with its behavior on the wheel and begin to feel like one with it.
And that’s a wrap. Thanks to my students for a memorable week on the new studio! Was a pleasure following your progress throughout the week 💪🏽. Wish you all a pleasant journey home!
As we near the end of our week long workshops, students can no longer keep the vessels they throw because they will not make the firing. But this is often when most of their progress is made as they take risks and are more daring. This does result in a lot of clay to recycle so we are very grateful to our trusty pugmill that has served us well for more than a decade❤️
An inevitably part of any workshop💔. @newfoundpottery ask me to help her let go of this beautiful vessel that was unfortunately made too late to be fired😇. With those skills she’ll easily be able to remake it when she returns to Canada 🇨🇦
