I met Peter on a foggy sunday morning, around 8am. I was out for a walk with my film camera, he was walking his dog. We first passed each other by the river & exchanged ‘Good mornings’.
I saw him for a second time as I took pictures of the foggy tennis court. He noticed I was shooting film & asked about my camera and film preference. He told me his name & said his dogs name was ‘Willie’ — I said, ‘Hi Willie Nelson’. He seemed surprised at my knowing his namesake, but I’ve learned to enjoy the feeling of saying things I know are true.
I originally turned to walk away but then asked for his photo. I thought of asking him for coffee but didn’t — I don’t know why I always do that.
Anyways, if anyone knows Peter & Willie — pass these photos on for me 🦢
ps this is not my favourite Willie Nelson song, but it’s my favourite of his son’s.
I remember every time something broke feeling absolutely gut wrenched. I started collecting my mistakes with the idea they’d one day mean something & now they’ve been turned into something beautiful — what a lovely metaphor blah blah blah … no one tell Grandma pat I broke the depression era bowl fuck
Took my gr.12s camping this weekend. If you were worried about the next generation, don’t be. The kids on the internet are much different than those entering the world — they are kind, caring and fun young humans.
It was a ‘phones free’ camping trip, but I gave them disposables to have fun with — they barely complained. Instead they: played mantracker, did a scavenger hunt, went to the beach, roasted marshmallows, played catch, went geocaching, played trivia, sang campfire songs, went for a hike, played mafia until midnight & tolerated Mme Becker’s friends 🥺🥺🥺
I recently read ‘Tuesday’s with Morrie’ with my students — if you get the chance, I highly suggest you read it. I love my job. I love teaching young humans to be good people… how lucky!!!
