This is the “realistic” version of the Wither painting from @minecraft in @aminecraftmovie . The original pixel painting is actually not by Kristoffer @Zetterstrand but was done by Jens Bergensten. This upscaled version was made by the movie set decorators.
The original was added to the game when they added the wither, as a hint on how to summon it.
Everyone knows Minecraft is the ultimate blocky sandbox game, where you can build pretty much anything you dream up. Now, meet one of the creative directors behind it, Torfi. He leads the creative on Minecraft entertainment projects, such as immersive experiences and animated series—not to mention producing the upcoming A Minecraft Movie in theatres April 4.
Torfi knows Minecraft players create without limits, but he didn’t know just how much it meant to them. He soon found out at the film preview. Fans of all ages shouted in unison “I am Steve” after Jack Black’s fiery on-screen entrance as Minecraft’s Steve. Because Steve is every player in the Minecraft universe—full of potential.

Painter Kristoffer Zetterstrand, who made the original @minecraft early pixel paintings, was kind enough to let us make non pixelated versions of his works for @aminecraftmovie . They used elements of his actual oil paintings. This one is from a piece he did in 2009 called “Moonlight Installation”. Just like C418’s music, his paintings feel such an important part of the soul of Minecraft, and I’ve spent many evenings punching walls to get the right ones in my bases. Thank you Kristoffer! And I encourage everyone to check out his art, both older pieces and his recent work!
Amazing premiere day for @aminecraftmovie , I can’t believe we’re here finally! It was so great to meet all the amazing people who have been telling fun stories, creating songs and entertaining us for the last fifteen years of @minecraft and being able to share our movie with them. So grateful to everyone who worked on it and most of all to Jared Hess who brought it all home.
Super fun themed dinner with some of Minecraft’s most fun creators in London in anticipation for tomorrows @aminecraftmovie premiere. The turnout was amazing. So many fun storytellers together in one place!
