My slim little book of moon drawings, sky observations and stumbling around in the dark has unbelievably won the non-fiction section of the East Anglian Book Awards. I feel so honoured and completely astonished to be amongst such great writers. THANK YOU @writerscentre And here is what the category judge Kim Lim said about the book “I was captivated by this diary account of an artist seeking to draw the full moon rise, which led to a two-year journey of awe and wonder as she learns to see the world around her in a different light: moon light. In the process, Falcon gains a better understanding about the moon, the night sky as well as her own place on this Earth. This book is a celebration of the natural world through immersion, with lyrical, fragmentary writing that brings the reader very much in the moment with the author as she watches, discovers and connects with the colours, patterns and shapes of the sky and the sounds and smells of rural Norfolk, from a nearby farm harvesting potatoes and sugar beets to the owl hooting in the dark.” Thank you. #blowmedown #iwonaprize #writing #drawing #art #naturewriting #landscape #landscapepainting #moon #sky #stars #writer #artist

I’m thrilled to be taking part in the DissCover Book Festival on the weekend of 2nd - 3rd May. Sunday is devoted to nature writing and I’m honoured, if not slightly alarmed, to be sandwiched between two greats, Ian Collins and Richard Maybe. Do come along . 06.45 Friday, hurrying to the woodshed with bare feet because a miracle had occurred and the log I put on the fire at 20.00 last night was still alight. But I was waylaid by this fast moving, dark, bubble of cumulus casting glorious blue shadows upwards . It looked a bit like this. 28x38cm pastel and pencil on blue paper #drawing #landscapepainting #skyscape #cloudshadows #cloud

Pac-Man appears to be devouring the rising March full moon. And who can blame him, the eastern horizon seems to be made of Battenberg cake. 76x90 cm charcoal and pastel on brown paper #fullmoon #landscapepainting #landscape #battenbergcake #nightdrawing

The remnants of last week’s snow showing me the way under last week’s not quite full moon. The twice daily route taken by me and my ancient dog briefly created fabulous (sparkling) shapes and scribbles on the rough ground. If you could be sure of snow you could prepare the ground by a year of walking an outline - wait for just the right moment of melt - and see your image emerge. A bit like a cold, fleeting Long Man of Wilmington or something. #snow #moonlight #drawing #landscapepainting

Surprised by a buzzard landing inches from my feet. Ungainly and purpley pink in the evening light, we stared at each other in incomprehension for an extraordinary moment before it launched itself back into the air. Sadly it didn’t bring me a message from the Gods but weirdly the light seemed to have completely gone when I resumed my drawing of rush hour on the Hingham road. Instagram suggested Elton John’s Step into Christmas would be a good match for this September drawing of evening light on the cliffs of St Magnus Bay. #drawing #eveninglight #shetland

Dore Holm, looking very much like a children’s book illustration of the whale that swallowed Jonah. Drawn in September as the sun was setting. First one done about 18.30 ish. Second one about 19.00, third 19.45 and the fourth one at about 23.00. Pastel on paper 28x38cm #drawing #landscapepainting #shetland

Self portrait on the Eahaness cliffs. Charcoal and pastel on 2 pieces of paper 60x100cm Work from a September trip to Shetland. I’m not sure I really did stand that close to the edge, my God those cliffs are terrifying. Geos, stacks, arches, collapsed tunnels and boulders the size of washing machines tossed up to the top of the 50 m cliffs by the North Atlantic. Wild and dazzling stuff by anyone’s standards but especially for a native of Norfolk. #drawing #art #shetland #selfportrait #eshaness #landscape #landscapepainting #sea #cliffs

The last moment of colour in last night’s moon rising scribble. I’m fascinated by, and keep trying to draw that moment. One minute I’m using browns, yellows, reds , the next I look up and all colour has vanished. I know the reason for this is my eyes but I can’t help thinking there’s more to it, especially in October and November. I’m sure there’s magic involved because all those beautiful autumn colours definitely linger longer. #drawing #art #moon #lastlight #landscape #autumn #landscapepaintings #naturalworld

This is one of the many reasons why (and probably the sweetest) I don’t mow the little bank outside my studio.
