SCORCH 1st Jam 2026 - The Savannah Speed Test
The 2026 Carnival season exploded into life at the Queen’s Park Savannah on New
Year’s Day, but the compelling atmosphere leading up to SCORCH 1st Jam was
thick with more than just anticipation. A cloud of uncertainty had loomed over the
event following the nomadic government’s controversial decision to ban the use of
national stadiums for fetes.
For an event like 1st Jam, which has built its reputation on the “moving truck” fete
concept, the stadium logistics were historically vital; the circular nature of those
venues provided the perfect track for the relentless momentum the brand is known
for. Many wondered if the shift to the Savannah would stall the engine, but
yesterday, SCORCHers answered that question with a resounding no.
The energy inside the venue was electric from the first whistle, proving that the vibe
is carried by the people rather than the architecture of a venue. Key sets from
Travis World and Chucky Rayban acted as the high-octane fuel for the evening,
perfectly calibrated to keep the massive crowd in constant motion.
These transitions set the stage for explosive performances by Yung Bredda and
Full Blown, the latter of whom provided the definitive highlight of the event. Full
Blown’s “Respectfully Yours” has already cemented itself as one of the season’s
heavyweight Soca anthems, drawing massive forwards from every corner of the
grounds and proving that the track has the legs to carry the Carnival spirit all the
way to the road.
Beyond the performances, the most significant talking point of the evening was the
bold and substantial presence of Dancehall music throughout the event. The DJs
leaned heavily into mixing soca with dancehall rhythms, and the crowd’s reaction
was nothing short of exhilarated. This seamless blending of genres was more than
just a musical choice. The success of the event raised a compelling question: is this
fusion of sounds the new modern paradigm of Carnival music? If the feedback from
the 1st Jam crowd is any indication, the evolution is already here, and
SCORCHERS will be the ones leading the charge into this new era.
