If you or someone you love lives with lymphedema, you know how vital compression is, not just for managing swelling, but for protecting your quality of life. That’s why The Lymphedema Treatment Act matters. This federal law, now in effect, means Medicare may now cover compression garments, bandaging supplies, and nighttime garments for those with a medical need. It’s a big step toward accessibility and dignity in long-term care, and it’s important to know what you’re entitled to. As a certified lymphedema therapist, I believe everyone deserves to be informed, empowered, and supported in their care, not overwhelmed by unclear systems. Swipe through to understand what Medicare may cover, what it depends on, and how to advocate for yourself or a loved one. Knowledge is care, too. —Dr. Tiffany Topp, OTD, OTR/L, CLT-ALM #lymphedemaawareness #topplymphatics #compressiontherapy #medicarecoverage #patienteducation

Please say hello to our April Feature Therapist, Tiffany Topp, OTD, OTR/L, CLT-ALM! 👋 You can find her at @topplymphatics Q: What is your practice setting and what population do you treat? A: I am the owner of Topp Lymphatics Therapy Services and an occupational therapist and certified lymphedema therapist. I provide both mobile and clinic-based services for adults managing cancer-related and non-cancer-related lymphedema, including complex and chronic presentations. My approach emphasizes complete decongestive therapy while helping patients integrate care into their daily routines for long-term self-management. Q: What tip can you give other lymphedema therapists for treating cancer-related lymphedema? A: I view lymphedema through a health management lens, focusing on habit formation, daily routines, and a patient’s readiness to change. Lymphedema management is most effective when we recognize these shifts and adjust care to meet the person where they are, rather than focusing solely on clinical goals. Q: What is one thing you wish everyone knew about cancer-related lymphedema? A: Lymphedema is manageable, but it is not a one-time fix. With early intervention, appropriate tools, and support that fits a person’s lifestyle, individuals can maintain function, prevent progression, and continue living full, active lives. Q: What are some of the benefits you have seen among patients using pneumatic compression devices? A: For clients who have difficulty managing compression independently, a pneumatic pump can be a lifeline. When used as part of complete decongestive therapy, it helps improve tissue softness, reduce heaviness, and support the movement of stagnant lymph, making long-term management more sustainable. Thank you, Tiffany, for your dedication to working with cancer survivors! #lymphedemarehab #lymphedematherapist #occupationaltherapist

Health isn’t just about treatment—it’s about what you do each and every day. In Episode 4 of The Empowered OT, Dr. Tiifany Topp breaks down how occupational therapy helps you build real routines, healthier habits, and a lifestyle that actually supports your long-term wellness. Because feeling better isn’t just clinical—it’s personal. Part 4 of our interview with @laurahaddan is now on my YouTube channel! #TheEmpoweredOT #OccupationalTherapy #WellnessJourney

Swelling in the lower body is common, but it is not always something to ignore. Gravity, circulation, lymphatic flow, lifestyle habits, and medical history all play a role in how fluid moves through the body. For some people, swelling resolves with movement and rest. For others, persistent fluid retention signals that the lymphatic system may need support. The key is proper evaluation — not guessing. If you’re dealing with ongoing heaviness or swelling in your legs or feet, you can book a 30-minute consultation through the link in bio to get clarity about what’s happening. #lymphatichealth

Living with lymphedema means navigating physical symptoms and sometimes uncomfortable conversations. The truth is, I’ve had people say things without realizing how dismissive or harmful their words can feel. Awareness isn’t just about understanding the condition.
It’s also about creating empathy and safe spaces for those who live with it daily. If someone in your life is managing lymphedema, sometimes the best support is simply listening. And if you’re experiencing persistent swelling yourself, professional evaluation can help you understand your body better. #topplymphatics Book a 30-minute consultation through the link in bio if you want clarity around your symptoms. #lymphedema #lymphedemaawareness

All swelling is not the same. Many people use the words edema and lymphedema interchangeably, but they are not identical conditions. Understanding the difference matters because treatment approaches vary depending on the cause of the swelling. If swelling is temporary and linked to injury or inflammation, it may resolve with time and proper care. If swelling is persistent and related to lymphatic dysfunction, it requires targeted management. Clarity starts with proper assessment. If you are experiencing ongoing swelling and want to understand what is happening in your body, you can book a 30-minute consultation through the link in bio. #lymphedema #edema #lymphedemaawareness
