Absolutely thrilled to begin early production of my feature documentary, From Bones to Bronze. The story follows Wyoming based bronze sculptor Gerald Shippen as he collaborates with the Arapaho and Cheyenne nations to create a sculpture honoring the tribes and lives lost in the Sand Creek Massacre, ultimately replacing a sculpture on the Denver Capital steps that misrepresented the atrocity and proclaimed it as a victory in battle. It was deeply moving to meet descendants of survivors of the massacre who shared their stories of resilience, pain, and hope for healing. Equally inspiring were the Methodist Ministers who showed up to support and held an ancestral responsibility to rectify wrongs committed by those under their church in the past. Seeing a multiethnic, multicultural group walk arm in arm together to correct a painful narrative and bring a sense of collaborative restoration was truly heartening l, especially in this time of deep Nationwide division. My heart feels so full after this weekend - we had our first theatrical premiere of Keepers of the Way at the @countytheater after a great festival run and sold out two screenings, selling a total of 320 tickets and giving 50% of the proceeds directly to the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania! Overwhelmed by the amount of support from family, friends and community both towards this film and the interest of the community in connecting with and learning from the Lenape.
