I went to see Harry who's teaching at Yirrkala School in East Arnhem. Here students are taught both English and Yolŋu Matha (a family of local languages). Despite a bloody history of colonial violence and dispossession, the Yolŋu are making sure that their language, law and culture continue to thrive. Bärra West Wind - Once Upon a Time

For the second week of May, @testinggrounds in Melbourne will become home to the Gig Workers' Hub. This will be a space in which food delivery riders and rideshare drivers can come together, meet each other, and feel supported. By providing free access to food and drinks, relevant information, phone chargers, tools, and other amenities, this event is intended to gather support – and demonstrate a need – for a permanent gig workers' hub in Melbourne’s CBD. The event is supported by @cityofmelbourne With translations by @cristea_zhao & @saraanand

With Deliveroo having just announced its departure from Australia, now more than ever, those doing app-based gig work need support. Australia’s federal government has mentioned plans to introduce important new legislative protections for gig workers, but what about spaces where these workers can come together? Between 11:30am - 8:30pm on Monday December 12 and Friday December 16, Micro-Labs Melbourne will be transformed into the Melbourne Delivery Riders Community Hub. This will be a place for delivery riders and other gig workers to enjoy free food and drink, receive training and advice, meet one another, recharge their batteries, or simply rest in a cool, sheltered place between jobs. Even if you’re not a gig worker, come down and learn more. Delivered in conjunction with Micro-Labs, the Transport Workers Union, the Young Workers Centre, and St Kilda Bike Kitchen.
