Raster
Het raster wordt als laatste handeling over het oppervlak aangebracht om een netwerk van orde te leggen en het werk voor het oog weer plat te maken. Zoals voorheen het aanbrengen van een laag epoxylak poogde alle handelingen die het werk had ondergaan toe te dekken. De reorganisatie van het oppervlak heeft het werk beschadigd en de lak moet een mate van visuele rust aanbrengen.
Sinds 2020 heeft dit raster ook een andere functie, die in feite strijdend is met het eerste argument. Juist doordat de aangebrachte lijnen zeer ondiep zijn aanbracht bevestig ik tegelijkertijd de onregelmatigheden die door de behandelingen in het oppervlak zijn ontstaan. Een vrijwel niet zichtbaar aspect van het oude werk wordt door deze raster-huid zichtbaar en is het voorkomen van het nieuwe.
Grid
The grid is applied to the surface as the final step to create a network of order and restore the work’s flat appearance to the eye. Precisely because the lines applied are very shallow, I simultaneously highlight the irregularities created in the surface by the treatments. A virtually invisible aspect of the old work is made visible by this grid-like skin and constitutes the appearance of the new.
